It is a beautifully simple gun...... Maybe I'll send keep it and send it to factory to fix my trigger. Wish it wasn't so damn expensive. 4 new high performance summer tires vs a small 9mm I won't ever carry.

Keep it, if you can.  Try some Gold Dots 115 or 124 gr. before giving up on the R9; could change your mind about carrying.

Sorry it did not work out for you. The trigger should be very very smooth and if yours is not there is something wrong - I would either call the factory or have the distributor you got it from make it right (on their dime!) and at least get the gun working correctly before you decide not to carry it. Even at great companies occasionally something slips past the QA team could have just as easily been your Kahr with a messed up trigger pull. I don't think there is an excuse for it but IMHO if you get rid of it now it wasnt an apples to apples comparison.

Best,
Ryan

I'm going to get the trigger fixed and keep the R9s. I'm starting to understand why everyone says this gun has a soul. All I need now is a J frame and I'll have a fantastic trio of pocket pistols - Kahr PM9, RohrBaugh R9s and S&W J.

So I need to get the trigger fixed and find 100% reliable ammo. Seems like the concensious is speer gold dot? I'm partial to 124gr for these little guys.

Thanks.

Anyone have an opinion on 114gr vs 124gr for short barreled 9mm?

Just another opinion, however, some folks like the 124 gr. due to they like the heavier weight, then again it may come down to what the R9 likes best.

I happen to like the 147gr, at least in the jello tests.

Spoke to Mr Rohrbaugh and will be sending my r9s back for repair. They want me to pay for overnight shipping which I find insulting. So trying to fight that battle now. Nothing like spending 1200 for a small inaccurate 9mm with a crappy trigger and then having to pay for overnight shipping on top of it all. I wonder if they'll try to bill me for return shipping too.

I have always known Rohrbaugh to be a stand up company.
I am sure they will make it right!

Apologies if I'm coming off as a little bitch. But if you have the balls to price a compact 9mm at over $1200, you better not ask me to pay for shipping when it's a manufacturer's defect.

I think the R9s would be fairly priced at around $700. I'd love to know what Rohrbaugh's profit margin are on these. I bet it's massive to compensate for the low volume. Plus I know damn well how expensive it is to run a business out of Long Island. I'm just thankful I didn't get the covert at over $1800.

I agree with you that shipping both ways should be on their dime as it is at many many other gun manufacturers.

As far as their margins go I am sure they are much less then one would think. Using the best materials with very tight machining tolerances is extremely costly.... unfortunately even at their high price point I speculate that they are a low volume low margin business.

I can't deny that it's very well crafted. I wonder how many they make a year.

I diagree with you.

Well crafted guns that cost $1200 work well right out of the box and don't require an $85 plane trip back to the factory.  I know how you feel as I have been there also.

It's disappointing for sure.

I also understand now why the R9 originally came without sights. It's sort of just a melee weapon. For my needs, the small size increase to the PM9 is worth the "big gun" night sights, greater accuracy and reduced recoil. You also get the option of a nice laser attachment for the PM9. I saw a strange full square looking laser online for the R9 that they say is also a holster replacement (stupid).

nyr, a suggestion re: shipping.  If you go overnight UPS it costs a bundle insured...I went that way once.  Now I go to my local gun dealer and have him ship it...cost me about $30 to ship a Seecamp out for engraving.  I also ended up sending an R9 back for an issue that turned out to be a defect in the firing pin retainer which was out of spec...caused all kinds of problems.  Went back on my dime which did not make me happy.  When I spoke to Maria, the explanation was that enough new purchasers didn't study the pistol, keep the grips tight, clean it properly, use correct ammo, etc. that the company found almost all returns were due to user error.   The repair was excellent and professional with lots of personal input from Karl.  In spite of all of that, my constant carry is now the R9 which functions flawlessly and is replaced only by my Seecamp if clothing/concealment issues require it.
Good luck with yours!  John
