gun room
« on: January 12, 2012, 08:11:08 PM »
Dear Members,

We are starting to think about an addition to our home. This would include increasing the size of the basement. Does anyone have advice on a built in gun vault? I am looking for the pros and cons of a safe door type gun room/vault. I would think that moisture removal might be an issue. If any of you have experience with this type of gun storage I would appreciate the feedback.
 Thanks in advance,

 Robar233

Robar:

Interestingly enough, FEMA has published guidance on building what they call a "safe room" for survival after disaster scenarios. You might get some helpful ideas from their suggestions and sample plans, then scale them up or down to fit your preference and add features you specifically want for your gun vault.

Robar,  Sorry I don't have any helpful input to offer.  However, here's a link the to the most amazing gun room that I've ever seen.  Perhaps it will give you a couple of ideas.  Enjoy.

PS You might consider PMing this guy with your questions, through the Ruger forum.  He appears like a VERY friendly guy.  If I recall, he even lists his phone number somewhere in the thread, in case anyone wants a "tour", if they're in his area.

Edited to add PS

That looks more like a gun shop, no most shops don't have that much inventory. ;D Unreal.

WOW!  The only improvement I can imagine for that place would be the addition of something like  AT's "Toadville Tavern" outside the door.  8)

Richard thanks for the FEMA links I will study them.
As for the gun room link on the Ruger forum WOW is right. That is much more than I was thinking. In fact if I made something like that I think I would be forced to sleep in there too!

I knew if I asked the question of you all I would get good advice and answers.

 Thanks
