Any Oregon Owners?
« on: October 30, 2011, 05:08:04 PM »
I recently moved to Portland and am enjoying being a gun owner again after my 20 year stint in NYC. I tried to own a gun there but it was impossible.

Anyway, I'm thinking of "pulling the trigger" on a Rohrbaugh but I'm held back by the fact that I've never been able to actually pull the trigger on one. The only ones in Portland are at Keith's and aside from the rude treatment when I visited there they wouldn't let me dry fire the gun.

If there's any owners in or near Portland who would be generous enough to let me fire the gun as I'm also torn about .380 vs. 9mm I would be more than grateful - and I'd buy the ammo and you'd keep the rest... And maybe a beer too! Even the chance to dryfire it would be nice. If anyone is selling a Stealth in OR please let me know.

I've read about every post here on .380 vs. 9mm and am still torn. I'm not hung up on the whole bigger is better and stopping power thing so I guess for me it's a feel thing maybe. Or perhaps just he exclusivity of the 9. I should have my CCL this week and I'm pretty sure this is the gun I want to carry (although I have yet to see a Seecamp - my second choice) so some time with one is what I'm looking for.

Advice is welcome too.

G:

Welcome to the Forum.

Many of us around here ordered our R9s sight unseen even before production started. My advice would be to decide what caliber you want, contact Tom Watson ("theirishguard") by PM on the Forum, and have him obtain and send you the model of your choice through a FFL there in Oregon. You won't regret it.

G.  Welcome from me as well.  I also endorse Tom Watson of the Irish Guard Firearms; he can certainly help in your choice.  As stated above, just send him a PM here on the Forum and you'll have help on the way.

I also bought an R9 not knowing even what it was except caliber and a picture; now own three; all R9's.  Again, welcome, and the best in your decision.

I live near Seattle. If you find yourself headed this direction give me a little notice and we could meet up, possibly even at a range. You''ll love this gun.

Thanks for the welcomes.

I'm sure I'll like the gun but since I'm not all that fond of DAO the feel of the trigger is important. If I can find a decent deal on a used one I'm sure I'd just go ahead and get it so I might just try to be patient (not a strong suit) and wait for one to come along.

ehb86 - I might just take you up on that. I know I'm going to head up there in December for the motorcycle show so if I haven't found one by then I'll send you a PM.

Certainly haven't heard much bad about them so I'm inclined to trust what I've heard but it's still a lot to spend on a single gun. I suppose it's not logical but I have an imaginary limit of $1000 on what I will spend on a pistol and above that I tend to be rather cautious. There's no logic to it really but it's what's in my head.

Another Welcome!  Wow, Portland is one of my favorite cities. Worked there on a consulting gig for 9 months a few years ago and have been getting back there a couple of times a year since then.  Get yourself the R9 - you won't be disappointed.  If for some reason you are, it's a pretty easy resell as these puppy's don't lose much value.
