The R9S   I ordered 3 weeks ago arrived at the gun shop  today.   I am pleasantly surprised that it  was delivered   ahead of schedule.
             I have several questions:
1. can I dry fire this pistol frequently?
2. do I need to acquire a channel lock pliers to be able to reinsert the recoil spring assembly?
3. the external recoil spring have finished/formed ends (both ends) unlike in the old pictures wherein there is unfinished end on one side  and a finished end on the other.  Is this the usual  appearance of the  more recent external recoil springs?

To answer your questions in order:

1. Yes. (I recommend using Snap Caps).

2. No. (Many owners of the R9 use channel lock pliers to compress the recoil spring assembly for reinsertion in the slide, but I have never found it necessary. One of John's ("Yankee's") takedown tools that were developed by R. J. Hedley helps a lot in the reassembly process.)

3. Yes. (The factory changed the recoil springs a couple of years ago to finish both ends. If the original springs were installed backwards, malfunctions would occur.)

2008 - I started looking for a pocket pistol and I learned about the  Rohrbaugh.    I started reading this forum.


July 24, 2010 - I wrote my first post in this forum and I asked about the possibility of slide bite.  The unanimous responses  of the forum members were NO SLIDE BITE.


August 11, 2010 - I ordered the Rohrbaugh R9S Standard.


September 1, 2010 - I got my Rohrbaugh R9S Standard.


September 4, 2010 -  I went to the local indoor range and I fired the Rohrbaugh R9S for the first time:  20 rounds of Winchester 115 gr FMJ  and 6 rounds of Speer Gold Dots 124 gr.   ..............FLAWLESS


I have evolved in my choice of concealed carry weapon from Ruger SP 101 to Kimber Ultra Aegis II  to Wilson Combat CQB Compact to Para PDA and now to Rohrbaugh R9S Standard.


In my opinion, the Rohrbaugh R9S is the perfect balance of concealability and firepower.  I think my search for the ultimate concealed carry weapon  has ended.   Many thanks to Rohrbaugh Firearms and to the members of this forum.

Nice story. My first R9s was a Farmingdale in 2005 which I ,foolishly, sold. I have owned 5 R9s in various configurations and finishes and now have the Robar R9s which, to me, is the best R9 out there, short of the original Farmingadle.

There are never too may R9s. You may consider in future to graduate to a Robar R9 or even acquire a (now) discontinued model such as a Stealth or Special  Forces model ,depending on your finances, but welcome to the addiction that keeps on giving.

NAA Guardian (.380) - 2001-2004
Rohrbaugh R9 - Prototype spotted at 2002 SHOT Show; R9 ordered immediately thereafter and received in May 2004, thus ending a search which had spanned 40 years.

Funny thing; I never carried a pocket pistol until '09.  Started with a Seecamp .32, then the R9, then got another.  Did have a .25 way back when, but didn't carry it; in fact, didn't carry anything.  Those were the days!

I fired 7 rounds of 124 gr Speer Gold Dots
12 rounds of 115 gr Speer Gold Dots
24 rounds of 115 gr  FMJ Winchester

Everything is well.
