Concealed carried for the first time today
« on: March 18, 2010, 11:18:12 PM »
I concealed carried for the first time today (I received my CCW handgun permit in Maryland about one month ago -- very tough to obtain CCW in Maryland). I used a XD40. Felt uncomfortable -- too big to conceal easily. Looking forward to receiving my R9S Stealth that I ordered from Tom shortly.

Lawyer56.  Excellent in getting the CCW permit in Maryland.  You'll find a world of difference in CC when you receive your R9.

Lawyer56:

Having once lived for a while in Montgomery County, Maryland, I know what you mean about the difficulty in obtaining a CCW permit in the state. Congratulations on successfully running that gauntlet.

I think you will find your Rohrbaugh to be ideal for carrying a pistol concealed. After a while, you will be more apt to notice its absence when not carrying it than its presence when it is on your person.

Good luck, and stay safe!

When you get the R9, I hope it stays concealed for years, and you never face a situation where you need to use it (Outside of having fun at the range, of course!).

Welcome to the group.

I remember the first time I went into the bank while carrying.  It felt really wrong and I was sure someone was going to notice the full size 45 on my hip.

Now I don't even think about it.  Especially with the R9.

It has been said that one never forgets the first time of doing anything of real importance in life. The first time carrying a pistol concealed qualifies as one of those things.

I've been carrying for more years than I like to admit, but I still remember that first time long ago. I felt that everyone on the street was looking at the imprint of the pistol I was wearing IWB at the time. Now, I know that no one is going to see the holstered R9 in my pocket, and after some trial and error I have rigs which permit me also to carry a Government model 1911 or a P7 in perfect concealment when I choose to do so.

Lawyer56, congrats.  My 2 cents would be to pick up a SW 38/357 snubbie while you wait.  $400 or less and conceals real well.  While I obviously also now own an R9, and love it for wearing with more formal outfits, there are times I like to wear jeans - put the snubbie in my boot and carry it instead.

In other words you may find you want more than one carry weapon, to fit different situations and outfits...
