Suggestions For New R9 Owner
« on: January 21, 2009, 09:54:41 AM »
I am ordering an R9.  I am excited about it. I currently carry a Guardian .380.  It functions flawlessly after hundreds of rounds through it.  I have wanted the R9 for a while and finally ordered one.  I have been reading the forum and find there are a few issues like ammunition sensitivity, FTF, etc.  I have a couple of questions.  Which ammo would you recommend to use?  I will only shoot the pistol every few months or so but want to make sure if I need it to work in a self defence senario, it will do the job. I have a Guardian  and have 100% confidence in it working and want the same assurance with the R9.  Also, I get the feeling there is a tool (?) used to help with field stripping the pistol.  Is that correct?  If so, where would I obtain one?  Thank you for your help and suggestions.  I view this pistol as a Rolls Royce and as such it will not be used for target practice ( I have other guns for that).  I just want to make sure that I do all that is recommended so that I can be sure of optimum results with the R9.  I am grateful for your insight. Thanks!

Welcome-

Ammo has been discussed quite a bit on this forum, so read all the past posts to get up to date.  Federal American Eagle seems to work out well.

IDMparts.com had a tool for the R9.  I'm not sure that Bryce is still making them but you can contact him.

Good luck and take care and keep us posted.

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on selecting what I consider to be the finest pocket pistol yet manufactured. I also own Guardians and value them highly, but the R9 is what I have carried for the past four years.

As for ammunition, if you have not already reviewed it, the material at this link to the FAQ sheet may be of interest:

Again, welcome aboard.
