Ammo question
« on: April 03, 2008, 11:33:16 PM »
I wiill be taking possession of a new R9s in the next few days and was researching Speer Gold Dots as this brand seems to be the best diet for the gun.

I came across the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 124gr +P HP.

Now, I know +P's are not recommended for this gun, but what caught my eye was the "Short Barrel" label. Probably not as "short" as the R9s, I'm guessing.

I wouldn't take these to the range, but I'm wondering if this ammo would be ok to keep in the gun loaded in the nightstand - just in case. Or, am I asking for problems at just the WRONG moment - when it's needed, god forbid?

Thanks in advance, guys. Ken

BTW, without all of your comments, input, enthusiasm and passion for such a gun, I would NEVER have bought the R9s, which happens to be an Elite Premium - sight unseen. I've read practically every thread on this forum and am so impressed with the many members with whom I've privately "conversed".

I am most appreciative!! You guys are great salesmen. ;)

(The only downside was the even "trade" I made with the little lady for a Mark Jacob pocketbook I just bought her. That's like 2 Elite Premiums!! Oh well, better to have 1 than none.)

I believe +p would void your warranty.

The R9 is on the bleeding edge as far as size and therefore is a bit thin in a lot of places.  I believe +P's, even a few, would damage your gun.
