Availability of Elites?
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:24:29 PM »
Per Maria at Rohrbaugh the wait for an Elite is 6-8 weeks.

Have any Elites, besides DDGator's and Roy Huntington's, left the factory?

Does anyone have any information about the Diamond Black (DLC) coating?  Is this a proprietary finish or is it used on other firearms?  Which company does the slide finish work?

For the Stealth owners, any slides finish/wear issues?

The only dealer in Colorado said they have "all" models on order and have only gotten the regular R9.  Seems like it will be unlikely that I will be able to see an Elite prior ordering/purchasing

I would like to add the Elite to the family and obviously have a lot of questions with very few answers.  I hope the members on this forum can help.

Thanks in advance.

The slide coatings are done by Smith & Wesson.

If it is done by the new Smith and Wesson I think I will pass.

Hmmmm.  Its  being done by the currently existing S&W and not a historical S&W...   ;)

I am not sure the nature of your comment.  If you are questioning S&W's quality, I am not sure I am following you.  I understand that S&W does the finishing for a lot of companies, its just kept pretty quiet.  S&W is a finishing and machining outsource supplier for a lot of big companies, including Harley Davidson.  I have been very happy with the finishes on my newer S&Ws.

If we are still on the whole sell-out/traitor/gun-locks thing, I guess there isn't much I can say about that.

Maybe talking about a bad batch of M&P pistols finishes.  Heard of some bad rusting after one day of hot weather wear.  I think it was limited to one bad batch that they were happy to fit new slides to those guns.

Interesting.  I missed that.

The nice thing with the R-9 is you have two levels of quality control.  If Karl isn't happy with a batch of slides when they come in from S&W, he sends them back.  Obviously unabused failure of the finish would be covered by your warranty.

Jack, all of my customers who have gotten Stealths from me like the finish and no reported problems. The Elite I got in for a customer liked it very much and it looked very nice to me also. In talking with Rohrbaugh I could add an Elite to the order for you. They should ship in about 2 weeks. Tom
