Got one!
« on: February 23, 2008, 06:43:03 PM »
Well I got one and I have you guys to blame.:D First time ever that I've paid over retail for a gun. Didn't pay the display price but it was high nonetheless. Well, what can you do? I've gotten some major deals on guns before so I didn't feel too bad about this one. What's your life worth anyway?

Now for the break in. What kind of ammo do these pistols like and how many should I fire to make sure everything functions the way it should?

BTW- It's an R9s Stealth. I'll try to take some pics in a little bit.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum!

After a bad experience with cheap ammo, I stick to Speer Gold Dot Hollow Points (even for practice ammo).  Some members have used Winchester White Box as range ammo with decent results.

Just remember to change your recoil spring at 100 rounds (the factory recommended interval) and keep the gun lubed per the manual.  Enjoy your pup!

Nice, I had some issues with mine before changing out the original mag springs for the new ones.  I keep mine loaded with GD's 115 standard pressure.  Runs like a champ.  For practice I use Blazer 115 gn and have never a bobble.  Best hideaway gun I own.  Good luck with yours.

How many rounds do I need for break in? Will it eat 147gr. or is that too heavy?

You are a lucky man.

Some things in life are worth paying for.

Take a look at the FAQ on the sire that DDGator links to-it has a TREMENDOUS amount of information about the R9.

There was a good writeup about the potential for tumbling of the bullet downrange.  The conclusion was that the Speer bullet in the CCI blazer and the Gold Dot had the most ideal OAL and this matched up with the freebore portion of the barrel better.

Give that site a read and devour the information on this site.

Congratulations and enjoy the R9s.

It figures I shot all my 115gr. stuff last time out. I have boatloads of American Eagle 124gr. FMJ and my normal 9mm carry GDHP 147gr. Looks like I'll be buying some ammo tomorrow.

One thing I can't find is how many rounds should I shoot to make sure everything is as it should be. My MO with a new gun is to put 100-200 rounds through it the first time out including carry ammo.

I'm figuring with this one at most two mags of carry ammo as long as there are no issues. Is that enough or should I put more through it?

If you have a Sportsman's Warehouse, they have Federal American Eagle AE9DP for about $12/box although that might vary by region.  Don't hesitate to check out the CCI blazer also.

Good luck.  Provide us with a range report after the shoot.

good looking Stealth, congrats. Enjoy shooting it. I would use either Speer Gold Dot or Winchester Silver Tips in 115 gr or 124 gr.  Tom

Remember that the R9 is ammo sensitive. I am not sure that American Eagle or CCI would function.

In my R9 115 Gold Dots and 115 WWB have never failed.

JB:

Congratulations on acquiring your Stealth! You may have already checked Chris's very informative FAQ Sheet, but if not here is the link to it:

I hope you are as satisfied with your R9 as I have been with mine for the past four years.
