R9 vs Walther PPS
« on: November 09, 2007, 11:42:39 PM »
Has anyone had a chance to compare the two?  No one around here has the PPS to look at.

The PPS is suppose to be the same size as the PPK with the PPS being a little boxy'er as per this photo ...

... that said, here's my R9 next to my PPK ...

... Until someone can post a comparison photo, you'll have to use the two images to sort of imagine what the R9 would look like next to the PPS.

That said, I still would like to see a PPK in 9mm!

And I know that the R9 is small and lighter than the PPK but I still would like to have a 9mm in the size and shape of the PPK.

There is an article on the PPS in the Feb. 08 issue from
the link above. The PPS weighs 19.4 oz. empty.

Same here -- because of the caliber. But if I could get a 9mm in the size & shape of a PPK, that would be my first choice.

Hmmm... I have a PPS and an R-9 in my safe.  I can see if I can get a photo tonight.

The PPS is a nice gun.  Its pretty flat, as per their advertising.  You can get lots of grip on it.  Trigger is lighter than the R-9, with a Glock-type in-trigger safety.  Its easier to shoot the PPS at longer distances because it is bigger and has pretty decent sights.  I don't like three white dot sights as a rule, but I was pretty accurate with these -- I could clear 5 of 6 plates at 15 yards every time, moving pretty quickly.

The PPS is quirky, and small guns tend to be.  It has an odd mag release at the bottom of the trigger guard, and the magazines are kind of funny looking.

Best of all, they managed to striker fired gun that doesn't have to have a trigger pulled to disassemble it.  ;D  Apparently some people have issues with getting their guns cleared before cleaning.  ::)  Removal of the interchangeable backstrap disengages the sear for takedown (or just rendering it safe).

Its a nice gun.  Its not the size of an R-9 though.

Here is another review of the PPS with some comparison pics. He also has a article on the RB R9 :)
