Finally gave in today...despite horrible gun shop
« on: July 16, 2007, 08:35:44 PM »
I finally gave in to my obsessive compulsive nature and ordered my R9s today.  :)

I called around and found one in stock locally. it was at a dealer I do not really care to much for but I went to look at it anyway. On my way I called my regular dealer and asked him to look at his suppliers for me and see what he could do for me.

When I arrived at the other dealer I remembered one of the reasons I do not like them. The big sign on the door that says "NO FIREARMS INSIDE OF STORE EXCEPT FOR ACTIVE DUTY LEO's" was the first thing I saw as I entered.

Then I was reminded of the second reason I do not like them...the unfriendly sales people. Granted I had been to the gym so I was a little rough looking and maybe even a bit smelly. I guess I just did not look like I could afford a $1000 toy. The guy at first did not even act like he had time for me. Then once he graced me with his attention he just sat it on the counter in front of me and stared at me without saying a word as I looked it over. I tried making small talk about the gun and the newer springs but he would just grunt a one or two word reply. he also seemed to either have very little knowledge of the gun or at least no knowledge he cared to share wth me.

Luckily as I was standing there my regular dealer called me and said he could get me one from the east coast and it should be here by friday. Bad news was it was not one of his regular distributors so it would end up cost a bit more. It was going to cost me $979 which was $30 more than the one i had in my hand. Still I told him to order it and I would be right over to pay for it.

Now I just have to play the waiting game...

Doh, the waiting game sucks. I am going to go play Hungry, Hungry, Hippos instead.  ;D

Two great decisions! May I suggest as you wait, (if you have not already done so) Go to the FAQ site, in the "multimedia" section and view the take down videos. Then, on the forum, under, "cleaning and maintenance"  check out  RichardS  post  "Tools for Cleaning and Maintenance of the R-9".  There are a couple of invaluable tools you can put together yourself (while you wait) to assist in the disassembly/reassembly process. Then when your pup arrives your prepared.

Hi Playboy Penguin,

I played the waiting game for my pup. When they first came out and I read about them and looked at them on the internet I really thought I wanted one but I could not find one to actually see and hold. I would not order one for a grand under those circumstances and I kind of forgot about them. About a year later I ran into the R9S Stealth model with a dealer at Bill Goodman's Gun & Knife show. I had to make a trip back home to get my check book and the rest is history.

I am really glad I waited because when they came out they didn't have the Stealth model. I prefer the stealth over the stainless but I am about ready to pick up a stainless one just to have one.

Oh well you will have yours soon enough and your other guns will take a back seat.

Enjoy it when you get it. Let us know how you like it.

Hey WS6,

Your posting is kind of like dangling a piece of candy in front of a child and telling them here it is but you will have to wait. LOL.

Good pic.

Is that a crack in the frame, just under the trigger?

PP:

Congratultions and welcome to the "club"!

Look at it this way. It's worth $30 extra to obtain your R9 from your regular dealer. The "karma" will be better.  ;)

Those occasional gun shops staffed by kounter-kommandos-with-attitude are a royal pain in the backside and give the entire industry a bad name.

Good luck with your R9.
