malayalee747,

It is carried in my R9S.  Generally, it seems to be well regarded, but you can find negative opinions.  It may be worth a search on something like glocktalk and sigforum.

I will probably shoot it up and go back to the regular premium stuff.

Right or wrong, based upon reading untold numbers of posts, I feel the most desired carry ammo is Winchester LEO Ranger, Golden Saber, Gold Dot, and Hydra-Shok.  I have a supply of all listed.

They have all passed thru my R9S successfully.

I would only use what Police Deptartments use.  Recomended ammo for short barrel would be winchester silver tip 115gr. and Speer Gold dot in lighter weights.  This was from the factory representive.

Thanks, Arizona.  You have a good point.

I switched in my Gold Dot 124 gr. for carry in the R9.  There were enough negative opinions on Magsafe to plant the seed of doubt.

I'm sure they are fine, but it's Gold Dot for me.

While I agree with the choices of lightweight Gold Dots, Silvertips and the like, the rationale of using what police use is slightly flawed. As police shootings often involve shooting through auto glass, auto sheet metal, wood and sheetrock barricades and such, police loads typically are optimized for somewhat greater penetration than "civilian" loads.

Civilian self defense shootings are almost always straight-on, without anything between you and your assailant (check out the book "Stopping Power" by Marshall and Sanow, www.stoppingpower.net, for more info on this topic), so rapid expansion and energy transfer is more crucial. Light bullets are the way to go.

Local police dept use federal hydrashok ammo.

Local DPS usually use winchester ranger ammo.

No special ammo.  The ammo has to be tried and true as oppose to a gimmick "super new state of the art 100% one shot stop ammo"

I have carried Magsafe Defender cartridges since about 1990. I discovered the ammo originally from a member of the Detroit police SWAT team. Both Glasser and Magsafe were developed for police use. RBCD was developed for limited military use (for urban anti-tango warfare).

There is nothing magic about frangible ammo. Where the ammo shines is when less than perfect bullet placement is present. Remember the "old rule of three:" gunfights occur at three feet, in about three seconds, with an average of three rounds being fired.

Obvious use would be by Federal Air Marshal.
