Hello Larry,

I look forward to your first experiences shooting the R9. I should receive mine soon and will reply back with a range report as well.

I sold a Kahr PM9 and although the PM9 was IMO very reliable, the R9 will be a step up in quality , etc. For what ever reason I was not comfortable with the plastic frame.

Pleasure speaking with you!!

Cheers,

Fred

Hello All:  My maiden voyage with the new pup was a mixed blessing.  I first racked the slide 50 or 60 times. Then loaded with 6 Gold Dots 124gr.  Target at 15 ft.-8" Shoot N-C  The 5th & 6th rounds stove-piped together!

Ld 6 more GDs-#4 Failed to Fire!  Was able to reload rnd. and ignite it.
Ld 6 GDs again-#3 appeared to be a flyer(spinner)as paper had elongated hole.
I then slow squeezed the trigger and had FTFire! Next pull fired the rnd.
GDs mostly went high and left.

Then loaded 6 Win 115 FMJ-All fired OK and to POA!
6 more Win FMJs with 1 FTFeed.
6 more again with 2nd to last FTfeed

Then tried Federal HP-#5 FTfeed  #6 FTFire! ( I tapped the slide closed on the #5 FTfeed )
I finally stoked her with GDs again and they all fed and went bang!
Now it was time to clean & lube her, which I will do later.  I had decent groups, with most on target. Don't think I limp-wristed any. All rounds fired from same magazine.

I realize that I should have some patience with her.  It is good that I have read much of the Forum in the last year. If this were a Glock or a 1911, I would be sending it back to the factory-or the glue factory.  Currently, I would not stake my life on this gun. What bothered me most, was several rounds of each flavor including the Gold Dots, failing to fire at all. A couple took 3 trys!  It sounds like Harrydog's problem.  I hope this is not a 'later gun' issue.
It is one beautiful piece and I sincerely hope to fall in love.  I have to get to know her first.  Therapy, uh-feedback welcome.    Larry

Larry,

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing start.

If that happened to me, I would clean the heck out of it, switch magazines, and give it one more try.

And return it to the factory if failures continue.

Many owners have applied abrasive tape to the grip to keep it from squirming and also reduce the pain of firing.

I hope the second time is 100% satisfactory for you.

Bill

Thanks for the reply, Bill. I am going to hang in there and definately clean & lube.  As far as the grip tape goes, it may help, but I think I would try something more easily removed first, like Hogue rubber.  The idea of covering the nice looking originals is rather a shame. Maybe the G10's will offer more grip. I will have to wait a few days before testing again.  Larry

If you look over the threads about the grip tape, you'll see that most folks have very good luck with just putting a small piece on the front and rear straps, not on the grip panels themselves.  Mine are about 0.5" wide, and 1.0" & 1.5" long, with rounded corners.  And if you decide to remove the tape after experimenting, either goo-gone or cig. lighter fluid (naptha) will take any residue right off.

For me, these little pieces of tape made a world of difference in how the weapon handles and fires, and I have very large hands.

But good luck getting your pup to digest properly!  Such a great little weapon should be dependable for everyday carry, not just as a trophy piece.
