Any additional value to consecutive numbers???

I have a chance to get a consecutive set of R9's. Is it worth it? What if one of the guns is used? I've really spent my gun budget for about the next 7 months so I have to be convinced on this - at least a little bit

I have two consecutive serial number Seecamps NIB.  I doubt if I sold them as a set I would get much more than I paid for them.

One of the two R9s I have was a NIB of a consecutive SS#.  I traded a custom made Tony Bose pocket knife for it.  So you see it didn't have a huge value to the seller - except the knife was worth more than the R9.

In fact my two R9s are about 400 SS# apart.  I like it that way in case some updates were performed in the newer R9.  

So what I'm saying is consecutive SS# would not intice me to spend more money than I have on hand.  But that's me.  Others may think another way.

I have often read of pistols having consecutive numbers.

Clearly, some folks feel the value is enhanced.

Meanwhile, I'm like Dave.  It would not especially attract me to pay extra.

When a dealer gets an order in the guns are in order by serial number. No big deal.

I think the only value would be in a "paired set" -- not really applicable for a Rohrbaugh, but if you got a pair of custom SAA colts....

In 100 years, a pair of sequentially numbered R9s would be of collectible interest.  In the meantime, in my opinion, the numbering is of no particular consequence.  

I purchased my R9 because it was the smallest 9mm pistol then (and still) made -- an investment for the safety of my family rather than the growth of my portfolio.  As far as investments are concerned (and in my unprofessional personal opinion), gold looks good for the long term (as always), energy stocks look promising for the medium term (possibly), and the stock of Ford Motor Company looks interesting for the short term (I know, but I'm a gambler at heart).

You are absolutely correct that "worth more to whom" is the key.  Most people would never pay more than $30 for a pocket knife.  I can assure you though that if I had desired that knife on Richard's link would have sold for $1400 within a day on some of the knife selling sites.  The reason I didn't just sell it out right is the trade was done with a friend.  

I know it sounds crazy but that is what the market will bear. Custom knife dealing is a whole different world.  I've seen pocket knives go for $20,000 - now there you are getting into only very select people and I am not one of them.
