Bedair Takedown Tools Gone
« on: July 21, 2007, 09:13:32 AM »
Steve apparently had to remove his instruction page for making the Bedair takedown tools for the R9.

http://bedair.org/Rohr/Rohrbaugh.html

Was this done by Rohrbaugh?

Does anyone have the instructions archived because I would like to keep them in case I need to make another set of the tools.

Too bad, now someone is going to make money from his idea.

Arjuna 70,  CVPC 3 /4 X 1/2" reducer coupling. 1/2"CVPC pipe.
Cut the 1/2" pipe to 3/8" install into coupler with a 7/16" socket. If you need to file down the 3/8" piece more, you can pop it back out with a screw driver. The pieces can be bought in a hardware store in the water section. Parts should be less than $5.00. I bought a 1' piece of 1/2" pipe easy to hold to cut. Feeler gauge 22mm. cut out 2 sections from the hole in the center of it. If you already have one, then you'll know how to cut it. WS6

Thanks for the description that is very helpful.

Also in terms of the small metal tool, what kind of tool is it that he cuts to make it?

If you want to know who had it pulled; I'm not going to point fingers or make accusations, but it's easy to see-  just follow the money.

Sorry everyone, I've not kept up with the forums.
I can't remember the persons name who has the patent
but it was not Rohrbaugh.  I searched and it is a legit
patent on a handgun disassembly tool. It covers all
handguns that use the Rohrbaugh design. The patent
was issued in 2005, long before my tool was posted.
The picture of the patented device did not look like
my tool but it had the same end result. Yes I imagine
I could have fought it but I never posted the information
to make any money.
Thanks again,
Steve Bedair

I corresponded privately with Steve on this matter. He is a true gentleman.

A patent provides the holder thereof the right to exclude others from making, using, selling, offering for sale, or importing the patented invention for the term of the patent, usually 20 years from the filing date. It is a limited property right which the government offers to inventors in exchange for their agreement to share the details of their inventions with the public. Like any other property right, it may be sold, licensed, mortgaged, assigned or transferred, given away, or simply abandoned.

Now . . . .  If the party claiming to hold exclusive patent rights for the type of takedown device in question is going to have his or her attorney take action seeking to protect those claimed rights, it would seem not unreasonable to expect him or her now to step forward and share its details with the public by either bringing the item to market or by selling, licensing, or otherwise transferring the rights to someone who can and will do so.

Thanks Steve
Brings to mind a trip to a remote island in the Chesapeake where my wife and I sailed when we were younger. We had purchased a can of coke with one of them new pop tops. The loop pulled off,but the top didn't pop. What to do?
A young man whose mouth looked like a dental emergency was splitting firewood in his front yard,We stopped and asked him for help and if he had a church key.He took the coke can into his house and was gone for some time. When he returned he handed me the unopened can "Don't have no church key".
I looked at him and said "well how do you open your cans?" Where upon he took the   can  placed it on his chopping block and raised the axe over his head.
True story.
There are lots of ways to open a coke can (and a pop top don't look nothing like an axe).

I don't think the "Alternative tool*" would ruffle any feathers, do you?   :)

Can someone elaborate a bit more on the asembly of the PVC piping and needed cuts.

I have never seen one before and therefore could not knock off what I haven't seen.

Thanks in advance.
