Mags on Gun Broker
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:33:59 AM »
I just saw a new R9 mag for sale on Gun Broker.  it had bids to $34 and the reserve had not been met.  I sent a question to the seller about the reserve and noted that mags only cost $35 from the factory.  Before he could reply, the bid reached $42 and his reserve was satisfied...

People do the strangest things at auctions...

I know. I suppose in some part it is due to the perceived prospect of instant gratification, in another to what might be called "the thrill of the chase," and finally to little or no research. But, as P. T. Barnum might have said, "There's a sucker born every minute."

(In the interest of full disclosure, I should admit that one night a year or so ago, while enjoying a very old vintage, I allowed myself to become caught up in the closing frenzy of an eBay auction. The next morning, to my chagrin, I found that I had actually won the thing. Of course, I blamed the very old vintage.  ;) )

In any event, it's too bad that the person bidding on that R9 magazine didn't just give Maria a call at the factory. The mag could have been in the mail the same day.

Don't be ashamed Richard, I also have a couple old vintage items in the gun room. :-[ :-X

I once bought a boat at auction because how could I not buy it for 20 bucks.  The next day while trying to get it out of there I said to myself what the *&# were you thinking, and that was without the vintage.  Dan

Greed and bargains are first cousins; what happened to the boat?

My, my, how this group likes to recall old times.  As important as thoughts of old wine and lionel trains are, the biggest problem of the Rohrbaugh day remains, "when is IDM going to start selling their excellent mag extensions?????????????????????????????????????????"

Back in the days when they were available, I thought they were a bit pricey.  Now, I'd almost be willing to write a check for double the price just to have one or two.

I don't suppose anyone out there has one they want to sell...

OK, back to old wine and trains...

Prices on Gunbroker seem to inflate.  My experience on eBay is that the buyers SEEM more informed of the real values of available commodities.  While I have bought two firearms on Gunbroker, there is rarely a good deal.  Their prices on mags and ammo are downright silly.

Not enough vintage brewed to skew the judgment of THAT many people...
