Michigan Renaissance Festival - Gun Free Zone
« on: September 04, 2007, 12:11:28 AM »
Sunday we took the grandkids, 5 & 8 years old, to the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly.  The website requested that no weapons be brought onto the grounds.
Michigan's prohibit concealed carry in crowds of more than 2,500 anyway.  So I reluctantly stashed my piece in the lockbox in my car.

As we bought our tickets, I noticed that people were lining up to buy $10 registrations for their dogs.
Later in the afternoon we began to see young men walking among the crowds leading BIG dogs.  Large German Shepherds, a couple of mastiffs, a few bull terrier types.
Now, I'm not afraid of dogs, but I have witnessed first-hand the damage a large dog can do to a grown adult in an instant.

QUESTION:  Does it make sense to forbid CCW holders from carrying a means of defense, while allowing others to walk among crowds of little kids leading large dogs?

No.  Aggression prone dogs in a noisy crowd are AD or ND waiting to happen.  None can predict what would take to set them off.  I might feel compelled to (quietly) breach the Michigan law and load up with Glaser.  An appropriately discrete arm would be desirable for this ...

Was this thing outside? Or in a stadium?
Were there signs designating it as a CEZ? (Criminal Empowerment Zone)!!

The 2,500 # has to deal with Theater type areas I know also, with seating..

That is a bite-pun intended!!

No-makes no sense!!!! >:(
