My uncle retired from the NYPD in 1978 and is finally turning in his pistol license. Today he gave me his old Colt Official Police model revolver that he got in 1953. Can anyone advise if it can fire .38 special +P rounds (I have a shyteload of them from when I retired).
Congrats, Joe. I really like the Colt .38 special and had a Colt Detective years ago. There's a guy on the following forum that says the Colt Official Police can fire the +P with no problems. Then, another guy on down doesn't recommend firing +p; stating, a lot of shooting of +P could cause excessive wear on the pistol.
I have no personal knowledge that it can fire +P, but would also recommend not using it. As the guy says, Colt didn't harden the parts all the way through and parts are only case hardened.
Great pistol.
