KIMBER "Makeover"???
« on: March 29, 2010, 03:31:55 PM »
Say one had a Clackamas Kimber with a very low serial (one of the first 250 made) but the finish was well worn and the gun had been fired often (still tight though) box is with it but no paperworkand and some of the parts on the gun are not original...would it be blasphemy to have it refinished? Possibly in a "blued" configuration even though that is not original? Or two tone maybe?

There was another thread here for a guy looking for a full size '11 and I had mentioned Pistol Dynamics and it is this firm I am contemplating sending this thing too for a "makeover". I just have to assume that I cannot hurt its value any more than its condition dictates not to mention I probably would never get rid of it anyway.

Any opinions..?

I would do what makes you happy, If you ever did decide to sell it, there is someone out there who would be happy with it the way you had it done. If it had been a safe queen and was new in the box that would be different. just my take on it, and what I would do.

I agree.  Do what you want, P7.  I'm thinking Pistol Dynamics would only make it more valuable, and if you keep it, then you're happy.

Send it -- either to Pistol Dynamics for a "makeover" or to me for "safekeeping."  8)

Yes, KJ, you need one of those presentation boxes for your R9 to rest itself at night.  (I'm hoping for one in spalted maple.)   8)

Richard.  The wood boxes are very nice, for sure.  I'm just not into wood boxes for my guns.  Glad others are.  Good luck on this project, P7.
