New Kel-Tec PF-9

Kel Tec has a new single stack 9mm they are coming out with in May 06.  Called the PF-9.

Built in light rail.
MSRP $368 (for hard chrome).

Looks like they are trying to cut into R-9 and PM-9 sales.  Only time will tell if it will be a functional and reliable gun, certainly provides another option in the "true pocket 9mm" arena.

Good.  About time those guys did this -- its been in demand for quite some time.

Unfortunately, what most people were clammoring for was gun more the size of the P-3AT (or R-9).  What they are getting is a P-11 size gun that is flatter.

Now... its funny that the gun is proported to weigh .1 ounces empty less than the R-9.    Kel-Tec didn't like losing their title of smallest, lightest 9mm...  So I guess they have lightest back if they aren't fudging their numbers any.  I bet that beating 12.8 ounces was a design goal!

All in all, I will probably have one.  A light rail on a gun that small is probably unnecessary--although all the rage right now.

Will this gun be competition for the R-9?  To some degree, just like the P-3AT.  Competiton for Kahr?  Definitely.

I don't know why Glock and others are missing the boat on this size gun.

Man, after all the hot-air generated about this single-stack Kel-Tec concept, I'm amazed to see that it might actually come to fruition.

I have to say that I'll probably stick with the Kahr and Rohrbaughs, though (even if I hadn't already bought them). I agree with Duane that I'd take a serious look at a Glock single-stack, too - pity they aren't as forward-thinking as Kel-Tec on this question.

I've got a good friend who carries a Kel-Tec P3-AT, and this might be just the thing for him.

Well, the pres release says the "shorter trigger" is adapted from the P-3AT, so my first guess is No.

Yep, a KT source confirmed the trigger is nearly identical to the P-3AT, so no repeat strike capability.

Sure hope so. I prefer the Skyy-1 over the P-11. Neither one is in the same class as the R9 but both have a place in my inventory for specific tasks.

Just my opinion but I don't think the new "slim" KelTec will have any effect whatsoever for those who were considering the purchase of a Rohrbaugh pistol for concealed carry.

I think that the initial price of the Rohrbaugh is simply out of the price range for the "average" pistol buyer.  I'm not saying the Rohrbaugh isn't worth the price, I'm just saying I don't think most folks can drop $1000.00 (more or less) on one concealed carry firearm.

I personally feel I "got more for my money" with a S&W J-frame 638 (Bodyguard) w/ Crimson Trace Lasergrips AND a Keltec P11 (or P32, I have both).  If you shopped carefully you could probably get all three for $1000.00.  

My experience with all three has been nothing but positive, and in fact the Crimson Trace Lasergripped J-frame snubby is very, very acccurate, and absolutely reliable.. (As the nature of the revolver seems to be.)

If my boat ever comes in, (and I don't think it's out of drydock whereever that is) I would probably buy a Rohrbaugh for the same reason that I would like to own (but cannot afford ) an H&K P7M8, or Walther P5.  

Quality, and exclusivness...

Even then I would start lobbying Crimson Trace for a set of lasergrips for it.  Those lasergrips ARE well worth the money.

Just my old (seriously poor) fart opinion.

But, I don't need an external safety on a dao pistol, and KelTec customer service can't be beaten, so I'll stick with the originals.

The only feature of the current Skyy that I like is the stainless steel slide.  I have a stainless steel P11 (no longer made) that holds 12+1 instead of 9+1 like the CPX-1, with no annoying safety to get in the way.
