No more Hi-Powers

I just read on the Colt Forum that Browning has announced they are discontinuing the Hi-Power.

Sales are down and the manufacturing equipment is old an worn out. The economics are not there.

A beautiful Browning Hi Power Tangent with ivory grips and near perfect mirrored blue finish is one that got away.  The father-in-law of a coworker passed away and the coworker offered me first chance at his collection.  There were over a hundred guns, all either well-worn or completely mint.  He had Colts, Fitz, Devels and an Asp still in the plastic wrap.  I could only afford a few, but the Browning didn't make the cut. 
I still think about that one because of the interesting tangent sight and the mint finish.

The Hi-Power is a truly classic design but I can't say that I have ever owned or even shot one.

Sad day when I sold mine. It could do ANYTHING as good or better than almost any hi-cap. Gunshot tis weekend in Kokomo. The Hi-Power will be on mob look out list.

They were on BOTH sides in WW2 and have in every major and minor dust up since. Heck I think the British still use them for a standard sidearm.

The BHP was my first pistol purchase many years ago. It is a true tribute to the perennial genius of John Browning. It had a magazine disconnect safety and rough trigger, both of which were easily remedied by a competent pistol smith. Even though the British SAS carried it for decades I think that they have switched to the Sig 226 and 230 for backup. However, I would think that some old salt veterans still carry it. The SAS insisted on carrying it downloaded to 12 rounds in the magazine.

John Moses was a amazing man. With so many of the rounds, and firearms he invented, STILL being used is a testament to the true genius the man was. All that from a man wth no formal education.

I too had a nice older Hi-Power! And also let it go in a weak moment!!
There are some guns you just have to own,for a while at least!

You can get working 1911 copies for $375.00 so i think someone could make a Hi-Power copy for around that price.  Maybe ATI or one of the Turkish gun makers like Girsan will make a cheap Hi-Power clone.

I like the older Hi-Powers, however if I wanted a new (steel, not poly) gun with the same feel I'd get another CZ.  They are based off the Browning design and have modern features like a DA trigger.

I do NOT own polymer or striker fired handguns, I did buy a Glock 19 in the late 1980's and was NOT impressed, BUT this little 9 MAY change my mind. Thanks
