Where to buy?
« on: March 26, 2014, 04:47:49 PM »
I am interested in buying the R9 or R9S.  I Called the company today and a message says they are moving.  Whats the best process or place to get one of these?  Is there a wait time?  Any help would be appreciated.

I bought my new R9S on gunbroker .  But , before they were moving,  when I spoke to them, you had to wait up to nine months with 500 doll. down . So ,  I did not want to wait so long and bought it on gunbroker.

They have NOT been operating for the last 40 days during this transitional process.  It was at first a "move" but there are statements from members on this board that it is a sale.  Considering they* are not honoring any warranty work or even communicated with customers I would hold off on any purchases of Rohrbaugh products.

I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, but simply letting you know in a way that seems like it would appease the people who control the forum. It's against the rules to say anything negative about the company or the way in which this process has gone, regardless of the impact on consumers who have outstanding warranty claims.

Feel free to PM me if you want more details.

* meaning the person who would have the ability to answer the phones as we are not allowed to blame the "prior owners" for the lack of any communication.

This place is hilarious  ;D.... but all drama aside...The overall situation sure reminds me of detonics ...same panic on parts, warrentye, etc....omg their moving to Seattle omg they sold out to a Arizona company omg the quality now is terrible ! Sure am glad I kept my Bellevue and seattle guns ! Outstanding collector pieces to this day and total functional gun that I never had "parts" issues with ! I see the r9 as the same, but to be fair mine are 100% working guns with no odd shaving metal or other weird problems.

This is ridiculously untrue.  I long for the days when everyone on the forum conducted themselves as gentlemen, rather than posting snide jabs at me all the time.   Why keep posting here if you are unhappy with the management of the forum?   There are other forums where this type of drama is appreciated.

And just to be clear for the new folks -- "the people who control the forum" is me.

As explained in some other threads, Rohrbaugh Firearms has been sold to a larger existing firearms company.  The factory is moving from New York to North Carolina as part of the change in ownership.  The plan was for the new owner (who is still unknown at this time) to start answering the phones and providing customer service before the end of March.  I have no idea if that schedule still holds.

However, common sense would say that there is going to be a delay before the new Rohrbaugh Firearms is cutting metal again.  I think buying something from new stock is going to take a few months.  Your best bet right now would be to buy some existing inventory somewhere if you can find one.  As to whether you buy now or not -- there are probably varying schools of thought.  I wouldn't hesitate myself, but some would say wait until the dust settles.

Here ya go. I have no dog in the fight (just fight in the dog), but here is a link to a great looking R9 in the classified section of this forum.

http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/index.php?topic=7317.0

I would buy this (provided its in decent shape) if I didn't already have one.

Mine has had issues and I would buy one again if someone stole mine.  I'm going to get mine repaired when the factory reopens.

Truth is that I bought mine through guns America or somewhere from a store who took it in on trade.

I paid $1050 for it one year ago.

In retrospect I think I probably tore mine up with junk, range and euro ammo and not cleaning it the way it likes. The ammo was unreliable so I kept shooting trying to figure it out. Well after learning that the picky ones like 124 GD and 124 lawman and a very positive grip I was getting some very good results, BUT I think the excessive shooting combined with the hotter euro loads and running the gun dirtier than they like from my first attempts took their toll.

Any one can learn from their own mistakes a wise man learns from others (I think Ben Franklin said)

Well if all of this crazy talk hasn't scared ya off you are probably a candidate for an R9.

You have to want to bend a little in order to carry a classy pistol that is the worlds smallest and lightest auto 9mm.

If you just want the MOST reliable gun regardless of its looks or size get a different gun IMO : )

though it doesn't fit the MOST reliable gun criteria I believe many on this sight have very reliable service out of theirs. That's why I'm still on here typing away. I beleive that they are generally reliable. Mine just happens to need a trip back home at the time that they are moving : )

For the record I do think that it's a good rule not to attack people on this forum. It's a piece of rare air to not have people bashing. Check out "I want to love my Rohrbaugh...BUT" and you will see how Duane runs with a sticky Situation. He passed the test IMO : ) there is latitude to say what you want to say unless you want to be offensive or attacking. The whole poll thing probably wouldn't have even been an issue if I was a long standing member with a rep for not being a trouble maker. All in all it's a good forum with a good bunch of guys and a few sore heads. Lol

Let us know what you decide.

I have purchased R9s from just about everywhere: Gunbroker, Guns America, the classifieds section of this forum, and even directly from Karl Rohrbaugh. Ironically I have never bought new from the factory though I had a custom number Tribute in the 7XXX range (my birthdate) on order but that may or may not pan out with the change in ownership. Point is that even though the factory is not currently selling firearms there are a variety of sources to purchase R9s from. All of the transactions I have done have gone smoothly and the folks I have dealt with through this forum were all top notch. It can be a bit of a leap of faith putting a thousand (or multiple thousands) of dollars worth of money orders in an envelope and sending it to a guy on the internet but in general the firearm community is a stand up crowd. If you have specific questions about the best way to conduct private party transactions feel free to ask them here.

My thoughts for you would be to learn about the different variations produced over the years, standard, stealth, covert, special forces, elite, robar, tribute, custom, etc and figure out exactly what model you want and start your search in the classifieds section of the forum.

Best of luck and enjoy the hunt (it is one of the best parts),

jwalker,  Welcome to the forum.
When I decided that I was going to have me an R9, I got on the phone and began calling gun stores in an expanding circle from my home address.
I would call, and ask "Do you have any Roar-Bah pistols for sale?"  All of them replied with some version of "Does I has a whut?" Until I was lucky enough to call someone who did have, to which he said, "Yes sir, I have an all black one and one that is black with a silver slide."
I hung up the phone, jumped in the car, drove about an hour, and happily plunked my money on the counter.  That was a happy day.
My R9s is in my front pocket as I type...it's the black one. The gun, not the pocket.

Most people, even gun gurus, do not even know what a Rohrbaugh R9 is.

Good luck with your search, and let us know how it plays out.

Cove Creek Outfitters treated me well and gave me a decent price. Even though their site may say they have none in stock, if you call you may find they have what you want or it's on the way. Doc  ;)

I have to say that this forum is by far one of the best gun forums out there. I recently joined two others in pursuit of a Herstal 5.7.  There is no comparison between this forum and the 5.7.  I feel at home here and have gotten some great advice from forum members.

DDGator...you have my vote and support...we can't thank you enough for what you do.

I can echo Blue2's experience.  I've bought used on the forum (works great), one new from a dealer at a gunshow worked great, but I stupidly sold it to pay for a Covert model, and the Covert from a dealer in Texas, also a new pistol.  The Covert had an out of spec firing pin retainer, possibly even due to the work done at the Wilson Combat factory (that put on the coating and tidies up the innards?).  Karl fixed it and it is my EDC, likes most premium ammo and has not had a failure that I couldn't attribute to a limp and arthritic offhand one-hand left hand shot (doing better after wrist and forearm exercises I might add).  The Farmingdale and Deer Park R9's will only appreciate in value in the future.
