R176 Farmingdale on Gunbroker
« on: December 06, 2013, 10:33:26 PM »
Very nice looking Farmingdale on gunbroker:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=379304475

Very rare to see Farmingdales and this looks to be a beauty. Even has the rare "R9s" making on the slide. The only thing that looks curious to me is the case. All of the Farmingdales and even the early Deer Parks I have see have had the egg crate style cases and not the gun shaped cutout.

Goodluck to anyone bidding!

Since you started this thread, in addition to your observation about the case, I had two notes that I'll add in regarding this gun.

The first is that it ended without any bids the previous time through http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=377036731  as I had been seen it then.

The second is, that during that first listing I had contacted the seller several times asking if the warranty card was still with it and never received a reply of any kind.  So I found that sort of odd. I went back and checked the listing to see if he added the info perhaps, but there wasn't any additional info there.

Another slightly nitpicking note regarding "NIB" is that there isn't a tag on the trigger guard; understandable but nonetheless missing from the gun.

I knew this gun looked familiar!...so I did some digging around.  This gun was listed for sale on this forum earlier this year.  The photos match up and the user name also begins with Andy which corresponds to the GunBroker lister's user name.

THIS GUN IS NOT NEW IN BOX

That was only the title of this thread. The Gunbroker auction states item condition as used, and the actual description states never fired, new condition.

The old thread from this forum explains some things:

http://www.rohrbaughforum.com/index.php?topic=6709.0

"Less than a 100 rounds have been run thru this gun. The gun has not been fired following a trip to the factory for adjustments and a spring replacement. Came back from the factory with new padding in the case. Asking $1800. Please send PM if you would like more information."

"the reason it was returned to the factory is because it was not ejecting correctly. That could have been my limp wrist, or the wrong ammo. I was informed nothing was wrong with it. They changed the spring, it was cleaned, and I was informed it would be sent back in an AS NEW condition"

So this explains why the seller never answered my question multiples times on GunBroker regarding the warranty card - it's because there isn't one with it, because it was registered and sent back to the factory for warranty service.  I guess this could also possibly explain the missing tag from the trigger guard.  This definitely explains the different padding in the case!

Will, very sold diligence. I am going to edit my original post to remove NIB references so no one gets confused. I knew that the foam did not look correct. the trigger guard tag was also a good observation. Other observations include: the black lock is correct for an early gun (newer locks are orange). The manual shown is correct because it displays both a silver frame and dark frame model. They eventually photo shopped the cover picture (gun serial number stayed the same) on the manual to no longer display a silver frame gun. I believe there should be an additional pamphlet (can't remember the content) but I think most of my early guns have two booklets.

Thanks guys - I find these discussions interesting.

Still a very nice early Farmingdale especially if it could be had for the right price!

As Ryan stated, the presence of the "s" on the slide sets it apart from alot of other pups.

Wildmanwill,

Were you former LE or Atty?

That was good investigative work.  Just wanted to say I was impressed.

New auction link is:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=381591379

Looks like the seller is willing to take $1350. A good discount from $1,800 from when it was listed on the forum.

IMHO the pre R SN Farmie Brenden currently has listed is the way to go from a collectibility standpoint for only a couple hundred more.

Yes, but it's back to having a reserve again.

I really wonder where the $1400 bidder was for the last auction where he could have bought it for $1350 (no reserve)

Will, you are correct again - my bad. Brendens gun is the one to have anyway.

I figured out where the high bidder of the original auction http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=379304475 (the $1402, with reserve unmet went ), it would appear that he bought this one instead http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=380852324.  It was aftermarket Robar coating too, by the way, not a Rohrbaugh Robar proper.

I agree that Brendens gun is the one for anyone considering a Farmie...and especially at his reduced Christmas price.
