VZ Grips: Checkered or not ??

VZ grips have been recommended to me as a possible aid in better controlling the "push back" on my R9.  The choices seem to be carbon fiber or G10 (with or without checkering).  Forget the G10 w/o checkering; I'd go for the CF if the choice was for a smooth grip. But what about the benefits of the checkering?

Has anyone tried both?  I like quality checkering on a nice, walnut rifle stock but it's more for the beauty than the function (OK, there's some function but to me it's secondary).  My most expensive target pistol grips are fully checkered and function there feels more prominent.  But these are much larger handguns (more than 3x the weight of my R9 so I'm not ready to place the same functional benefits to R9 checkering.

Still, the grip on the little R9 is challenging at best so wouldn't the VZs with checkering be preferred.  I'm assuming the CFs are not amenable to checkering.

I have checkered and I went from almost selling the lil pup due to always repositioning my hands after every shot to absolutely coveting it forever.  The surface area of the checkered grip has the R9 seated firmly in my hand.  Every shot is deliberate and tight.  A fabricated mag extension I bought from Pearce Grip Inc put the icing on the cake for me.  I sanded down the extension so it just was big enough for my pinky.

I have only used the checkered G10.  They work well and are rounded and are naturally "grippy" if that's a word.  The OEM Rohrbaugh's are flat and slick.

The only advantage I see of the Carbon Fiber or Non-checkered are they are a liitle better looking to me.  On the other hand the checkered G10 are very attractive also.  I'd go with checkered.

I find these non-checkered VZ R9 320s in Hyena Brown G10 to provide all the grip I need. As for any  aesthetic considerations, that would be your personal choice.

I finally, finally, finally... chose the checkered black cherry G10s...

Now I just have to look for "the Wells Fargo Wagon com'in down the road"...

It's a German-made Wiha 26316 1/16" x 50mm Precision Hex Driver I use for my R9's grip screws.

I ordered a Wilha set of Torx drivers once to take off a trigger shoe and they are extremely well made.

Just did a quick check.  The price with shipping from KC Tools is  $7.54.  From Amazon it's $9.58 plus shipping (I'm a Prime member so shipping is free but non-Prime members will have a higher total price).  From Micro Tools (linked through Amazon) is $6.10.

Make a mental note: Amazon is not always the cheapest, even when you pay upfront for free shipping...  But they do have links to more competitive deals.
