Leap of Faith
« on: August 04, 2012, 07:20:06 AM »
  Dear Senior Members,

After reading a reply from Tracker on the double tap thread, it made me think of something that belongs in this topic. I bought my R9 after reading everything I could about it, mostly here! I also saw an engraved version that I was not permitted to touch. I was sold so I placed the order.

Back in 2004 there were no reviews or models to see in person. Some of you took a "leap of faith" and likely put out a fair amount of cash for a brand new model from a new manufacturer. I have to say that was a pretty ballsy move. I would also like to say thank you very much for your courage and faith. Because of you I know own and carry daily what I think is the best pocket pistol in the world.

Lastly, how much did those R9's go for back then? Was there only one version, not caliber?

 Sincerely,
 Robar233

Aww, shucks. But thanks.  ;)

I don't recall what the exact price of my Farmingdale was, but I think it was somewhere around $1000 back in 2004. I got in line right after the prototype was unveiled at SHOT 2002.

Much credit goes to Tom who kept us interested and excited in anticipation during the year long wait. It was a three way partnership because Rohrbaugh certainly delivered the merchandise in grand style.

I was a little late to the party.  Only because I could not find an invitation.

After the write up in Handgunner, I just HAD to have one.  When I came across one in 2006, it was a no brainer.  Even though it was the first one I have ever seen; and I did not know anyone with one, there was no "leap of faith".   When you hold PERFECTION in your hands, you just KNOW IT!

The price I paid scared $1000 to death TTL.

Glad to pay it and never looked back. :)

A Rohrbaugh wasn't on my radar screen until I was at the SHOT Show a couple years ago showing Recluse holsters.  Duane introduced himself and asked if we could pretty please make holsters for the Rohrbaughs.

Wandered over a few isles and met Karl and Eric Rohrbaugh in person, handled an R9, and decided I had to have one!

Not long afterward, ordered mine through Tom, "the irish guard".

Couldn't be happier.

I keep telling my Rohrbaugh buyers that if they tell their friends maybe the price will come down due to the economies of scale.  But figuring in 2002 dollars, today's prices are a bargain.  I give each new pup owner 4 springs and a box of 124 Gold Dots...oh and a paperclip.
