Got the new pup out
« on: February 04, 2013, 10:53:23 PM »
Well today was the first day out for the pup and it did ok. The pup is very ammo picky and that is no joke. I took 6 different types of 9mm with me to see what it like to eat, so here is the run down.

Speer Lawman 124gr - 50 rounds, all fed, fired, and extracted as expected.
Speer Gold Dot 147gr - 20 rounds, same as above.
Remington Golden Saber 124gr - 6 rounds and only one fired on the first trigger pull, some took as many as 4 pulls. I stopped after 6 rounds and these were the first to be fired out of the pup.
Hornady 115gr Z-max – 6 rounds, these were the second rounds to be fired in the pup and was about the same as the Remington in needing up to 4 trigger pulls to fire them off.
Federal FMJ 115gr – I only tried 6 rounds of these and had one FTE, the case was still in the barrel when I had to clear the fire arm.
Hornady Custom 147gr – I did not try these after seeing the results with the first box.

I had absolutely no problems with the Speer Lawman or Gold Dots. I would fire both mags then let the pup cool down while my buddies were practicing with their duty weapons. (They both really liked the pup on a side note.) The pup had a little kick, but not as bad as I thought it would be, the last two and a half mags I did a rapid fire while practicing two mag changes. The only thing that I did notice was that the pup was shooting low, I would aim at the 10 and hit the 8, but it was dead center. My pup as of right now only likes Speer ammunition. I want to try some Blazer rounds make by Speer and Winchester Silvertips when I can find them, but for now I will have Gold Dot 147gr rounds as my carry ammo. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for posting your results.  As you have stated with your pup, mine has always been a pleasure to shoot when loaded with any Speer products.

On the cheaper field ammo side, American Eagle 115gr or 124gr both work excellent through mine....also recommended by Karl himself

Wow thanks for this review !

I tried to fire 147gr Golden Sabres tonight and 2 wouldn't fire.  I didn't keep pulling the trigger on them, and I stopped shooting the Remington after the second failre in 7 rounds.

Glad to know it's not just my gun...

I am curious how the Blazzer will do in your gun - I tried a few rounds of 124gr Blazzer Brass and it was very inaccurate.  I stopped after 3 rounds when I saw the huge tear in the target - they definately were not punching neat little holes in the paper.
