Question for Old Hands with R9's
« on: September 17, 2011, 01:48:29 AM »
Hi folks, I'm a newbie.  Many here probably own or have owned several R9 models.

If you were starting out, and had the choice, knowing what you know now--would you buy (A) one Elite, (B) or one Special Forces, or (C) both a Standard AND Stealth R9?

And my question assumes your reasons are your own, but do not include resale value (just trying to get at the some preferences among R9 owners and trying to rule out guns as investments only).

If you care to add why--super!

And if you have had personal experience handling some of these models (or the pleasure of owning them), all the better.

Thanks!

p.s. By way of explanation--I've found that listening to the voice(s) of experience has often been a big help.  Thanks again

yorkie lover Welcome to the group.

You left out owning just a Robar model.

My vote is for owning a standard model with some custom work. ;D

Luvmyyorkie....welcome to the forum...I just picked up a Rohrbaugh Elite, and it is a very sharp looking R9, but hard to come by...an original Special forces from Rohrbaugh is also a very hard example to find because of limited production, and both are no longer available from Rohrbaugh...when you do find one for sale you can expect to pay a premium for one...that being said you can probably pick up a stealth or two tone R9 in like new condition for under a $1000... right now...prices are way down on both new and collector R9's...recently a N.I.B Stealth R9 sold for $925. Good luck with your search!

Good point John, I forgot the Robar which is probably my favorite R9!

yorkie.  Welcome to the Forum.  As to advice on which model of Rohrbaugh to get first would be hard for me to do.  Certainly wishing you the best in your decision.  Again, welcome.

Well, if we're going with individual favorites I would have to say the Robar is my favorite as well.    :)

Welcome to the Forum.

In answer to your question, I agree with the above comments by John ("Yankee"). I have this compulsive urge to customize any handgun I purchase -- except, of course, for any true collector items that should be left untouched in order to maintain their value.

Welcome!

Something I'm not clear on yet: what are your plans for the pistol?

Is it to be an every day carry piece, or an addition to a collection?

The answer, I think, would greatly affect my opinion/advice.

Your comments are helpful, thank you.

My intention in purchasing is for carrying.

Oh, then I'd go either Standard or Stealth, based solely on your preference of their apearances.

Having done that, I'd buy a few holsters of different styles, a variety of ammo for test then carry, and put the money you saved over the more exotic models right back in your pocket.

It's a weapon first and foremost after all.

They all look identical inside your pocket and each one shoots as well as the other.

If money were no object and Robars were readily availble, then I would go with a Robar.

However, since 90 were made  and the chance of finding one are tough, then I would go with a standard/stealth or two.

Sorry to be repetitive, but let me say thanks again to all who have responded.  I logged back on tonight and enjoyed reading the additional responses.  Each as helped and I'm grateful.

kind regards,
mike

p.s. as for an added "thanks," -- I recall and agree with a delightful pianist in a church we went to, now having completed that higher journey, sending out a thank you card and adding her opinion through the old saw, "Roses are for the living."
