Although this ammo shortage may be temporary due to hoarding,
etc., it is very difficult to get charged up about a new car when
there is no gas at the pump.

I don't consider the .45 GAP a failure.  As a matter of fact, it's much more successful than the .357 SIG.  The purpose was not just to get the Glock name on a new cartridge, it addresses a problem of grip frame size that couldn't be solved with the .45 ACP.

4 state police agencies have adopted the 45 gap; New York, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and South Carolina, and more are considering it. Why?

1. It fits in a smaller grip frame than the .45 ACP, which fit the majority of officer's hands better.

2. The stopping power of the .45 ballistics (.45 colt/.45 ACP/.45 GAP) are proven.

3. It does not have over-penetration issues like the .40 S&W.

4. In extensive testing, which came down to the .40 S&W vs. the .45 GAP, more officers preferred the recoil pattern of the .45 GAP to the .40 S&W, saying it was more of a "push" than a "snap" like the .40 S&W.

The .45 GAP is basically a .45 ACP shortened to the length of a 9mm. It makes sense.  You've got .45 ACP ballistics in a smaller and lighter package.  It seems perfect for a R45.   If you were starting from scratch, and had to pick from 2 catridges that were brand new and had equal power/ballistics, wouldn't it make sense to pick the smaller/lighter one, especially if you were designing a ground-breaking small pocket pistol?

The bore to axis ratio makes more of a "push" with Glocks in all calibers, as that is how they are engineered. The Glock grip is configured such that the web of the hand is higher up than, say, a 1911, causing less muzzle flip.

I am not a fan of the .40, but I do like the .357 Sig.

The proof offered as to the worthiness of the GAP is stronger than I had previously believed, based upon what is claimed above. However, make mine .45ACP. Whatever proof you may have as to the GAP, it is (in my view) an attempt to improve upon what is already perfect.

In the interest of full disclosure my handle (ACP) is my initials, backwards.

The New York state testing of the .40S&W and the .45GAP were both in Glocks, I believe the model 22 and 37, respectively.

For whatever it is worth the Texas State Highway Patrol switched
from .40 to .357 Sig and are very happy with the accuracy and
stopping power. One thing I wonder about in these choices is the
noise level in each caliber;  apparently, the .45 has fewer decibels
than the 9mm, which is less than the .357 Sig, etc.. If someone
wants to lose their hearing just try firing a full cylinder of .357
magnum.

I guess I just like .45s, pretty much all of them, maybe it's the big holes.  I never thought of the noise as an advantage if you have to shoot it without hearing protection.

I've got a bond derringer in .45 colt with a trigger job by Bob Munden, one sweet little gun.  I have to admit I've carried it a few times and somehow don't feel helpless with just two shots of .45 colt.

Ouch! A derringer in .45 Colt? I guess I would feel safe carrying it too. A big bore is intimidating to a bad guy
