Golddots don't feed.
« on: November 06, 2008, 10:38:22 AM »
My R9 doesn't seem to like the Gold Dots in either weight. I get a Failure to Feed. The tip of the bullet hits the feed ramp of the barrel and sticks. It appears that the top 2 or 3 rounds in a magazine don't lay at the correct angle in the magazine. Once the spring tension is high from the first 4 rounds in the magazine it seems like it causes the last several rounds to lay more flat in the magazine rather than the tip being at the upward angle to feed into the chamber. The hollow points then hang up on the feed ramp. I just purchased 2 new magazines from Rahrbaugh thinking this would resolve the issue but it did not. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks!

Use 115 grain Winchester silver tips. Mr. Rohrbaugh does.

My R9s has fed everything from WWB and Magtech FMJ to at least 5-6 different SD rounds and I had no feeding or any issues.  I've tried Hornady, Speer, Silvertips, and Federal HST's in both 115gr and 124gr with full success.

No problems with Gold Dot or Federal HST here.  I do notice when racking the slide, the HST will try to stick but I've never had a problem when shooting them.  I'm probably not sling-shotting the slide back was well as I could.

First off welcome.  I had problems with my R9s but only with Remington UMC and the issue was the ammo's hard primer.  Gold Dots should not be an issue.  Anyway, based on your comments above and my experience with tuned 1911's and magazines, have you a second or third R9 mag that you can try through your pistol ?  It may be the spring or mag follower not aligning the round for you.  I would try that and also call up Rohrbaugh.  If the mag isn't the issue then it may be the feed ramp needs to be slightly polished off a bit by the Rohrbaugh folks.  Keep us posted.

I had noticed this ammo angle thing in the magazine before and
tried another magazine but the same thing was present. After
calling the factory I was told that the upward angle is normal.
