Any Ladies using Rohrbaughs?
« on: October 10, 2008, 05:47:59 PM »
Hello all.

Have been absent for quite some time...great to be back!  The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.   ;D

How many ladies out there are using R9s?  How many of you have had your wives / GFs or daughters shoot the pup?  What is the result?

My wife likes thin and small handguns, but I'm thinking a Snubby would be a better choice...

It all comes down to training, I know...but we're just curious as to the "R9 Ladies Club", if there is one.

Thanks folks.

My wife, at 66, loves hers, she can shoot a nice tight group at 20' and carries it everywhere she goes, even to her kickboxing class!! It can be hard on the hands if you shoot to many rounds at one time, but she keeps the round count around 25~ at one range outing.

Jimh,

That's great to hear.  Is she a very experienced shooter?  Obviously she can kick box! :-)

Is she a fan of off-body carry, like lots of women?  What's her preferred method to carry the little beast?

Hi all, and thanks for the kind words, Eddie!

I don't use a purse (truth be known, I'm just too lazy to lug one around).

Drawing from a holster in a standing position wasn't as much of a consideration as was how to do it while sitting.

Pocket carry was out for that reason. Getting to a pocket, while sitting -- is nearly impossible for me, especially when in the car with a seatbelt on.

My preferred method of carry is IWB at appendix with a slight cross draw cant. The reason for the angled cant is so the grip won't poke me in the ribs and the barrel won't jab me in the thigh when I sit down.

Our friend Robert Meco made me a holster built to my specifications - here are the pics he sent. He just finished it and I'll be getting it soon!

It's a beauty!! You can see more of his work here: mecopocketholsters.com

I bought my R9 in July through Tom (theirishguard). I run a couple of mags through it every month or so. The recoil is more managable than my .32 Seecamp; although my daughter doesn't like to shoot either of them!

Edited to add: I've also shot a S&W 642 Airweight. We bought this one as a gift for my FIL who has a bad shoulder and racking the slide on his other gun is getting harder for him. He wanted one he could use more easily.  I LIKE IT A LOT! If I were to carry a revolver, this would be my choice. I would steer away from the lighter scandium or titianium version -- there is an ounce or so less weight, but from what I've read, it packs a much harsher recoil.

Thanks for the great reply, MrsFosforos!

Regarding the Revo vs: Semi issue, what's your favorite thing about the Semi (R9) vs: the 642?

Spectro,
I forgot to add, the 642 I shot was the cenntenial frame with the enclosed hammer. When I shot it, I didn't try +P ammo, so my impression of the recoil was based on shooting target ammo. I can't remember exactly, but it was probably WWB.

The biggest practical advantage of the R9 is it is smaller and very easy to conceal. The R9 gives you 6+1 rounds vs 5 with the 642.
