WWB is top notch.

Beware that boxes with Peters on them is Remington mfg. also.

American Eagle is another brand of Federal andi it is good ammo IMO.

The Sellier and Belot seems to have 'hard primers' in some of their loads but in ALL other respects is top notch ammo.  The S&B even has primer sealant which the cheaper Win, Rem and Fed will not have.

Products like S&B are from the Check Republic just like the CZ arm are.  Even back in the Soviet days, Check products were valued for their quality.  The majority of Checks speak German which may give you an idea of where they get their work ethic from.


The Golden Sabre is Remington's top of the line so one would expect it to be of top quality.  You pay for it too.

I have some Remington JHP but not for 9mm.  Found some 185g 45acp CHEAP at a gun show and bought some.  Also, the flying ashtray stuff.  I wouldn't be scared of their self-defense stuff Riffraff, it's just the FMJ stuff that REALLY is low powered.   Good for competition perhaps, but not full bore practicing.  I think we agree if truth be told.

Here's my UMC experience.  I used to buy the Remington UMC by the caseload from Dick's Sporting Goods for all my guns when I first started shooting.  They had a nice discount and I would get coupons all the time being a member of their Rewards system.

The indoor club that I belonged to only allowed lead or UMC and no FMJ ammo.   That UMC fouled up all my guns and never fed correctly in any of my guns.  Being new to shooting I didn't know enough to switch to another brand as I figured ammo was ammo and wanted to save money.

One day I bought some WWB and cleaned up all my pistols and the problems ceased.  I'll never touch UMC again.  I do use Remington 158gr SWHP .38spl +P for my S&W 442 but no other Remington brands for ammo.  I'd rather pay the $1-3 more and save my guns and the headaches.

Thought I would update this thread with good news.  I posted a bit more detail on this under range reports.  After the failures with Remington UMC, I went back out last week and had 100% on the following ammo

- FMJ   Federal American Eagle 115 gr

- HP    Speer GD HP 115 & 124 gr,  Winchester Silver Tip 115 gr
          Federal Personal Defense 105 gr & 147 gr.

Now I am confident of what to feed my pup!

I've found Golden Sabers are usually less expensive than most of the other self defense ammo and they come in boxes of 25 rather than 20, which makes them an even better deal.
Like Richard, they have always worked very well for me. In addition to Golden Sabers I also like Gold Dots and Federal HST and buy whichever of the three brands I can get for the best price. All of them are top quality in my opinion.
I do agree that UMC is junk. WWB or S&B is the way to go for practice ammo, although I haven't been able to find S&B at a good price in the past couple of years.

With the dollar tanking even more, thanks to the "bailout" I doubt we'll see a good deal on S&B for a long time.  That's a very sad prospect, that the dollar can't even compete against currency from the Czech Republic.
