Ammo Suggestions...revisited
« on: January 06, 2008, 08:21:05 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm asking this question for a friend of mine who just purchased an R9s this weekend at a show.

I think the suggested round is Speer Gold Dot 124g, correct.   I think I've read Federal Hydrashock too.

What else works?  Hornady 124g?  Golden Saber?   Blackhills?

Is 124g preferred over 115?

Speaking of Blackhills, I wonder if the EXP ammo is forbidden.  It's not +P, but it's a little more powerful.

Thanks in advance,

Bytor Jr...who's now envious of his buddy.

Thanks guys.  I'll pass it on.  I'm a little surprised nobody has used any 124g or any other brands, but hey...if it works, it works.

People have used a lot of different ammo in their pups..

I have shot Winchester STHPs with great success, and I know several do the 124 GDs.

147 gr. is touted by some also..

IMO, you can't go wrong with the GDHPs,STHPs,and the WWB 115s for practice fodder..

Cool.  I'm pretty sure 147 is out of the question.  It doesn't get good velocity out of a longer barrel.  However, thanks for the other suggestions on 115 and 124.  I'll recommend Gold Dot.  That and Hornady are my favorite two bullets nowdays (have to say bullets since Blackhills loads(ed) both).

Anybody know about the Federal HST stuff?  Not only for the R9 but for any other 9mm?

Thanks again.  You've been great!

Agreed!  I'm one of those who also runs 147-grain Remington Golden Saber BJHPs through my R9. Problems, none. Results, good. I tend to prefer the "Big and Slow" philosophy of defensive handgun ammuniton. (Reasonable minds may differ.)
