Lucky find at the gun show!
« on: October 14, 2007, 10:21:05 PM »
Hi all, new guy here.
Went to the show up north in Birch Run and was the first person in line this morning when they opened the door.  I went to my favorite table and what did I see in the case, an R-9 Stealth NIB :o
I was beside myself  I had come looking for a seecamp 380 and the owner of the booth had his own personal 32 cal seecamp (which is the same frame size as the 380) with him.
I compared both the R-9 and the S-C and decided I wanted the Rohrbaugh.  I had been lurking for many months. I am glad I was able to compare both pieces before I bought. I am a happy ;D un-camper this evening, can not wait to shoot it.
Any advise? take down and clean/inspect first?
I have some magtech, some Hornaday jhp, and winchester White box,  will any of this be ok or should I stick with forums ammo of choice.
Thanks  Griz8)

Suggest you stay with the tested forum ammo.  There has been much discussion over the years it seems so I'll stay with the 115 Winchester STHP's.  Never a problem and I believe are the best bang for the buck!  LOL  BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the Stealth?

Welcome to the forum. You'll love your new pup. You should have bought the Seecamp to, then you would've had the best of both worlds. ;D Winchester white box shoots great in the gun. Don't over heat it when at the range. When cleaning don't over lube it and keep the top right grip screw tight. They use locktite 222 on the screws from the factory. Oil is recommended for choice of lube you can't go wrong with it.

Tom, right place right time seems to be the factor for Neal. He has come across some great deals. We both know that when it comes to luck, he doesn't have a chance ;D

Thanks a bunch for the welcome and ammo advice.
I shot a mag of wwb today, I am impressed, I also have my name on a seecamp 380 that should be to the dealer in a week, but I am having 2nd thoughts about that one, I have big meat hooks and the sc is pretty small, really like this pup though ;D
P.S. $995.00

That's a fair price.  Looks like it's the old pricing before they went up $100. back on Aug. 15th this year.  Does it have the new magazine and outer recoil springs?

Well not being familier with the old style springs and mags, in the box with the firearm was a bag with two mags and they were very stiff to load. how can you tell what is the new? also a recoil spring which appears to be the same size at either end?  Good?

Looks like you have the new mag spring and outer recoil spring.  From what you said, the new recoil spring will be closed on both ends.  Not sure how to tell if you have the newer mag. spring other than being stiff to load, but if you have the one you probably have the other.  In my Disassembly and Lubrication Instructions booklet, it was black inked out referencing  the unfinished end of the outer recoil spring in the system.

+1 on the Win-X 115 gr STHP's.  I've found them to be a bit more accurate as well.

Yes EliteR9s, I have the upgrade outer spring  :) it is a closed loop on each end and my instructions are blacked out concerning the older style spring as well.
This makes me very happy knowing I have the better stuff at a good price, it truly was a lucky day.
My show partner is my daughter who is studying criminal justice, and will enter the acadamy next year, she loves firearms as much as I do.  And she is a pretty good shot as well.
My wife also shoots I love taking the ladies to the range and have em go at it, I am a lucky guy 8).
