ME AND THE PUP DOWN ON THE FARM:
« on: July 28, 2006, 12:27:41 AM »
Having a great time together! What ever Rohrbough did, they did good! My R9s shoots great! This is the first opportunity I've had to shoot the "Little darling" since it came back from Rohrbough. It was like shooting a different gun. Shot six mags of 115 grain Silvertips yesterday evening with only one ftf (which was my fault- I tried to turn loose of the gun.) Boy!
Anyway, I quit while I was ahead. I cleaned the gun this AM and then tried to do some serious stuff.

The pup likes the Silvertips, doesn't like Cor.Bon 115 JHPs    ( primer set too deep, or too hard-several clicks to fire, if at all) , it loves Aquila (thanks to Riffraff for the heads up, it doesn't like Remington 124 Golden Sabers, likes 124 grain Gold Dots, doesn't like the 115 Gold Dots nearly as well!

I guess it's true that our pups are as individual as we are!

I've also bought a NAA Guardian 32 which I shot for the first time. Not a single hic-cup! Shot everything I put through it.
About sixty shots, silvertips, win. white box , and federal personal defense. I believe I'm going to buy stock in Silvertips!

Thanks for everyone's help and encouragement about the pup, I just wanted you all to know that me and the pup are having fun down on the farm! Les

Les,

Thanks for the feedback.  It does seem that some pups like special food.  Some like 115 GDHP over 124 GDHP - yours liked the 124 - go figure.

Remember that Karl recommended letting the R9 cool down after three mags in row.   Just doing that has stopped FTF for some who had them.

Keep us informed on your progress while you are pitching hay.

Dave

Les,

I'm glad to hear that it is working fine.

Mine has been very reliable, even with a wide variety of ammo.

We are still down on the farm and having even more fun! The pup is getting better and better! It is pretty well shooting every thing that I feed it now (still won't shoot the 115 grain Cor.Bans- I've noticed that they are 1/16 of an inch shorter, or more,  than the 115 grain SilverTips.) It shoots Silvertips,  Gold Dots 115 and 124 grains, Golden Sabers, Rem and Win round nose, Aquila. I've put almost 200 shots through it and it seems that the pup gets better and better!

I like the little NAA Guardian 32acp that I bought too. Shoots everything, 120-130 shots through it. Effective range is six or seven yards. I think I will get the trigger pull worked on.

My wife gave me a Sig Mosquito last Christmas and I put two 100 packs of Mini-Mags through it yesterday. No problems as long as you feed it Mini-Mags. That trigger too could use a lot of work. I've never seen a Sig trigger like that!

I also brought my Kimber Ultra-Carry and put 100 shots through it Friday with no problems of anykind. It is the so-called "series I." I had to send it back to Kimber once to have the plunger tube fixed, and while they had it I had them do a trigger job and put night sights on it. A good shooting gun! I've carried it for several years. Now, I may start carrying the pup as a primary most of the time instead.

We don't get to come down to the farm as often as we'd like. It is about the only time I get to shoot, so I try to get in all the shooting time I can when I come! It's nice to be able to shoot out in the back yard. They would frown on that sort of thing at our condo!

I retired from 42 years of being a pastor six years ago. I had a couple of heart attacks, by-pass surgery and several other "procedures." The last two heart doctors said I was going to die, that nothing else could be done. I'm GLAD that they missed that call! So you understand when I say, me and the pup are REALLY having fun down on the farm!  Les

Les,
Good stuff; I had the same feeling about the Mosquito's
trigger and returned it the same day I bought it. I didn't
feel like spending another $150. on an action job even
though I loved the look and feel of it.
