Need Suggestions for Grip on R9

I recently purchased a R9s, and really like it.  However, it just beats up my trigger finger when firing.  I have also had this problem with a Seecamp 380.

I have fairly large hands.  I have been shooting pistols and revolvers for over 40 years.  I have a lot of experience with hard recoiling guns, but have never had this problem.

I put some grip tape on my R9, thanks to a generous forum member, but have not fired the pistol since.

My question is:  should I just use a "death grip" on the little guns, or is there another technique that I could try?  I always have a firm grip and have not problem controlling the guns, but the pain is getting old.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I use shooting gloves for range work with my handguns having heavy recoil and bandaids for the trigger finger of my DAO handguns with heavy trigger pull.  Otherwise, I don't worry about the problem.  It has been my experience that in real-life crises adrenalin takes one to entirely new levels.

I  agree that in a high stress situation, the trigger finger will be the last thing that one concentrates on, but it is just painful to practice with this gun (and the Seecamp 380).

I have tried some gloves, but will just have to work something out.  Fortunately, these are not pistols that require mega practice shooting, so I am sure that I will survive!

You may want to check out the A-Grip by Brooks Tactical.  Its a suade type material that is impervious to sweatetc. and gives a much better gripping surface.  I used  it on a Kel-Tec 380 and also have it on my Glock 23.  It forms perfectly to the grip..  Haven't tried it on the R9, but sure the Kel-Tec size would work.  This can be also removed and replaced if one is careful..  They look good also, if you can stand covering up those pretty carbon grips.  Both pistols I have used it on seem to recoil less and a much more comfortable grip surface...   Jim
