Follow-Up Report on my Repaired R9s
« on: December 16, 2005, 04:38:53 PM »
Hi all. I’ve been away from the forum for awhile and I thought it was time to give a follow up report on my R9s after I got it back from its cracked slide replacement.

A quick background update for those of you who are new to the forum. After about 350 rounds fired through my new Rohrbaugh R9 (serial #59x) I noticed a crack in the slide. I had also been having some other problems with it, like failures to eject, magazine releasing while firing, and light primer strikes. I sent the pistol back to Rohrbaugh for repair. They replaced the slide (with one with sights at my request), replaced the magazine catch spring and checked it over. The brothers Rohrbaugh had it back to me in less than a week. That was great service!

After getting my “pup” back and firing about 150 rounds with it, I can honestly say that it is working great! The First shot after getting it back was at 15 feet, firing one handed using a Speer 115 grain GDHP. It hit dead center in the bull’s eye! Subsequent shots were all within 1 inch of that. In the first 25 rounds I had a couple failures to fire. But that was after firing 19 rapid rounds and the gun was quite hot. This only happened with UMC 115 grain FMJ ammo. I think that this failure was a combination of hard primers and an over heated, not fully broken-in, slide/firing pin assembly. Since then I have not used UMC ammo in my R9s, and I don’t let the gun get too hot (no more than 2 magazines (12+1) of rapid fire before letting it cool for a few minutes). I use Speer 115 and 124 grain Gold Dot Hollow Points as my carry ammo and have never had any type of failure with this ammo. IN FACT I HAVE HAD NO FAILURES OF ANY KIND WITH MY R9s IN MY LAST 125+ ROUNDS FIRED. My repaired Rohrbaugh R9s just seems to be getting better the more I shoot it!  :)

Sweet! I should really get out and give my new top-end a shakedown, but I've got a cold and I'm in between trips so I have no time.
