For Sale: Custom Gock 17 for carry (FL)
« on: March 17, 2007, 12:49:57 AM »
Decided to post this here on the R-Forum first, before posting elsewhere, because I know a lot of you would appreciate a nice custom carry piece like this one.

For Sale: Custom Gock 17 for carry (FL)

This gun started out as a third generation Glock 17.  The grip frame was then sent to the Glocksmith at Ross Sporting Goods (www.rosssportinggoods.com).  I had the following work done:

Full grip reduction, with removal of finger grooves and reduction of palm swell (backstrap)
Grip chop to Glock 19 size (now accepts G19 mags with flush fit)
Full stipple job on grip
Rounded trigger guard

These modifications to the frame have made for a great carry gun.  My hands are large, but the standard Glock finger grooves never fit me, and the curvature of the backstrap seemed unnatural to me.  This grip reduction was a vast improvement.  The stippling is very well done.  Some grip reductions can look like a horrible accident – this one looks sharp.

The most interesting part of this gun is the chop to a G19 grip.  The gun now has the benefit of a G17 length barrel and sight radius, but with the more concealable and shorter grip.  I am not aware of anyone doing this other than Ross Sporting Goods.  The quality of the work is great and it looks like factory work.

Finally, the sights were upgraded to the very impressive Heinie slant pro “straight eight” night sights (www.heinie.com).  These sights also have the slightly wider rear notch, called a “race cut.”  This is good for quick sight acquisition because it allows of some daylight on each side of the front sight.  The sights were installed by Heinie.

No trigger job or action work was done -- that is all stock.

This sale includes the original Glock box, paperwork and all original accessories.  It also includes two Glock 19 magazines (the Glock 17 mags no longer fit without extending below the grip), but not the original Glock 17 mags.

Gun is in excellent condition, with less than 750 rounds fired total.  No malfunctions.

To build this gun would cost you approximately $1,000.  This would include the original G17 ($475), the Ross Sporting Goods upgrades ($280 + $60 for shipping both ways), plus the Heine sights ($170 + $8 shipping).  And, I have already done all the work for you.

I like this gun, but it was built for a specific project that is over.  Glocks are not my favorite and I am actually trying to recreate a lot of the features of this gun on a different platform.  If you like Glocks, you will love this one.

Asking $700, including shipping to your FFL.   Your FFL must be willing to accept a shipment from me (as opposed to another FFL).  There is no legal problem with this, but some of them are funny about it and I just don’t have access to an FFL to do the shipping.  A face to face sale in the Tampa area would be great—and I would discount the price for the shipping I don’t have to spend.

Sorry for going on and on – but this is a very nice piece.  Please e-mail me with questions or to purchase.  E-mail at admin@rohrbaughforum.com.

Nice looking gun, and an interesting project.  If I was in the market for a new gun I'd snap that up.

I really like custom pieces that add a little character to the original gun.  Very unique designed Glock,  shouldn't be to hard finding someone interested in that piece.

I'm thankful you sold that... it's been on my mind and I really didn't need the temptation.
