Moving Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall In Town
« on: August 05, 2011, 02:59:52 AM »
One of the moving walls, the biggest of the four that travel, rolled into town yesterday..
They guessed between 400-500 motorcycles rode into town with the truck!!

I hope to go see the wall tomorrow,I am looking forward to it!!

There are a couple of other items that travel along with it pertaining to WW2 and Korea..

I understand that the wall is approx 3 blocks long..

God bless all that gave all!!!

Here is a short local news blurb about it coming into town..

I am currently aboard ship, and will likely miss this event.

But thank you Brenden for the invitation.

I have visited the one in DC and have seen one of the traveling ones, seeing either is a very emotional experience.

Just for edification: it is called The Memorial Wall. That is a wonderful thing to put it in a mobile status so others can be reminded of the enormous sacrifice of American servicemen and women. Many of my friends' names appear there etched in perpetuity.

I have two good and long-time friends whose names are on that wall --one of them the name of the finest helicopter pilot I ever knew.

What a remarkable memorial it is. To stand before it, to read the seemingly endless rollcall of names, to touch the engraved name of one of your friends, and to see the tributes left along the base of the wall by those who lost ones they loved in that war is a deeply moving religious experience.

To reiterate, this wall is most appropriately named, "The Memorial Wall." There is no Vietnam wall on these shores.
