Purely from experience w. some fingerprint scanners used years ago (6?! It's really been that long...) around the lab -- computer access, etc -- if you're fingers are dirty, etc they won't work -- not something I'd rely on, personally, if you're ever planning to get into it in a hurry/might be bloody, etc -- I'm sure there have been vast improvements since then.
