Kimber Solo
« on: March 02, 2011, 09:49:08 PM »
I handled my first Kimber Solo today. The fit and finish were typical Kimber. The balance of the pistol seemed right on, it seemed to be simple to point and shoot although of course it had sights. It seemed light for its size. Ambi mag release and safeties. Nicely melted the safeties did not project much at all from the slide nor did the mag release from the frame. Going to have to wait and see what the initial problems are and how quickly Kimber fixes them and how they treat their disgruntled customers, but I think eventually there may be one in my future.

Was the gun you handled for sale or was it someone's personal gun?  If it was for sale what was the asking price?  They are going nuts on GB.  $900 - $1000+

It was in a gun shop. It is their display model. Kimber will not let them sell this gun for 3 weeks. The price on the tag was $749.00. I guess I could have put a deposit on it, but i want to wait until some things shake out. I would not purchase online at this time the prices are silly in my opinion. I think you will be able to buy them for under 700 in the future.

What to do?  Anyone fired a Solo yet?  A local store has the two tone for $725 and holding it for me.  Then there is the Sig P290 (don’t know the price)…  Or I can get a R9S Stealth for $1200 within a week or so.  I saw a YouTube review for American Handgun and they appeared to shoo the heck out of the Solo with no problems.  I read one bad review, link on here someplace, but others were shining.  I know the R9 will work, every time, no questions…..but I’m liking the slide lock, sights, ambi mag release and safety…  Thoughts please….

Welcome back, Toad; treat yourself and go for the Stealth--works good on the bike.

I'm with you Toad, like everything about the Solo.
But as you will see on other posts, the consenus with a few of us is wait about a year on this one.
The reviews are mixed and quality on some does not shine as they should.
After all, it's not like we NEED it NOW.  We already have the BEST pocket pistol on the planet.
We can afford to wait, and let Kimber perfect this one.

Good Luck

Toad.  Where have you been?  Good to see you back.  On the Solo, I'd wait awhile.  Just me and several others, but waiting seems like the thing to do.

Thanks KJ, Tracker, and Reinz, good to be back...The Unk sent me on vacation to the armpits of the world...this time as a civilian.  Must hand it to the young troops who do take these trips routinely.   Got to work closely with some of America’s finest (they are definitely shooters).  Was a true blessing….but I’m getting too old for this stuff….  Anyway, I love my R9S, so considering everything, I think a Stealth is in my future.

Well, seeing as how Toads are impatient critters by nature, I purchased a Solo today ($675 at a nearby store that I do a lot of business with).  I will post pix of it side by side with the R9 later on this evening.  Tomorrow I'm going to thoroughly wring it out and see what it will do, with a range report to follow of course.  Fingers are crossed....  It's a beautiful gun...but aesthetics don't count in a gunfight...the proof will be in the performance.

Toad,
Congrats on the Solo, I like the all silver model myself.
Look forward to the range report and review.

Me, too.  Hope Toad's is silver and we can get a look at a silver one, although I'm sure he will be happy as long as it performs.
