Just Put True Glow Fiber optics sights on my Sig
« on: October 29, 2009, 02:22:46 PM »
I just got back from putting a set of True Glow TFO Sights on my Sig 228.  What a differance! The True Glow TFO Sights are a combination of Tritium Night Sights and Fiber Optics, Best of both worlds!. I already had a Crimson Trace Sight on the Sig but it did no good in bright sunlight. These fairly yell at your eyes to see them.  Those of you who are getting eyes that tend to get a little fuzzy due to age would love these thing. (I myself of course would not fall under that category ) :)

Chief:

Those sights sound like something I should consider for one of my 1911s -- although I also would not really need them. (Other than having had both retinas reattached and a cataract removed, I have the eyes of a hawk.  ::) )

What is their effective life expectancy?

The sights themselve are made of metal. The fiber optics would last indefinately  unless broken, at which point you could probably just replace the rods. The Tritium is a differant critter. I have tritium sights on another of my guns and they are 5 years old and still work just fine. Maybe someone else knows of expected life of tritium sights, (Sounds like a google search)
The cost at Shooters for the  Sights was $99.95 Installed.

And I can move them to another Sig if I wish to.

Most tritium starts deteriorating after 6 to 7 years but are still usable out to 9 or 10 years (but start dimming exponentially)...after that, they are usually toast

So.... $100.00 every 10 years; not bad.

Rear Site is about 3/8 inch tall, front is about 1/4 tall.

 Very nice looking sights.

(Now on to my next project gun while waiting for the R45. Thinking of buying/building a  AR15 Range Gun)

Sounds good.  Mine is the Mircotech Model STG - E4, project that is.  My only problem is, I want something in .308 and the MSAR is .223.

I am building an SPRish type of weapon, kind of best of both worlds, Combat capable and almost a sniper level of accuracy.  Should make it hold it's value better than a straight target type gun

.223/5.56 Bravo Company Lower is what I am building on. Leaning toward Noveske Barrel unless Bravo Company brings thier Stainless barrel to market soon.

Just for thought...try this: A 223/5.56 carbine upper for when the zombies attack and an additional upper in 204 Ruger using a Krieger barrel. That bullet screams at over 4K per sec and let the prairie dogs be forwarned! Some of the best fun you can have with your pants on.

Looked up the 204 Ruger and was impressed with the 4250 ft per sec.  Information says you can see nearly instantaneous results from pulling trigger to seeing target, through the scope, hit by the bullet; almost no recoil to pull you off target.
