Hello,just purchased 2 new made in mar 2013 r9 & r9s .
Have fired the r9 20 rounds trouble free with hst 124gr standard ,both mags WORK fine so far.
Have fired r9s 6 times with no issues at all.
r9 Accurate at 4.5-5 yards with point shooting, can easy keep it on a paper plate ,with a nice group... with fast bit of stress type fireing.
Have taken gun apart 4 times so far, that brings me to all this I have read about "its so hard to take these guns apart" BS !
Use a q tip or what ever to pop pin out and use a syringe method to insert spring, not hard at all. I will say it can take a few times gently ! racking slide , for the recoil spring assy to line up right but other than that its easy,no fancy tools are truly needed on these guns IMO.
Grips will be replaced with vz grippy types as I do get the smooth design but grips are to smooth for my uses.
I find the freebore use very intresting, anyone think it helps velocity or hurts it ? Just a quick thought but I think it may help the velocity ? Not sure yet and no tests run.
A super simple firearm that has it all,for a personal close range edc weapon, imo .
Anyone with velocity numbers on hst 124gr out of these ?
SO FAR...I REALLY LIKE THESE GUNS !

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on selecting the finest pocket pistol on the planet.
As for ballistics information, you can find some on the Chris' FAQ section, the link to which appears at the top of the Forum's opening page.

Welcome to the forum.
+1 for VZ checkered grips. Not only do they look good but they offer a bit more grip.

Welcome.
I am in the process of placing my order for a "Stealth" model .... 8)

You have defiantly made a good decision. The PUP is the finest pocket pistol on the market and the Stealth finish holds up well.

Thank you ! :)

My Pup has not in the past been happy with Hornady's hard primers...haven't tried any recently. Looks like Federal HST is the way to go, but I have not fired any from my R9...guess it's time to find some and try them out for carry!

I like 124 hst used them for years. I wonder how the freebore in the r9 will affect then + or - ??
-
The following is a quote from the January issue of "American Rifleman": "Federal Premium HST was available only to law enforcement personnel since its inception in 2002; however, in 2013 the company decided to make it available to consumers." I have fired it in the R9 and it functioned flawlessly. It is now my EDC ammo in the R9.

Thanks Tracker and CountZerO...good info. You guys are part of what makes this forum so special.

trident mentioned freebore; following is an interesting discussion on this subject:

Thanks I read that, a while back good info. I still am.curious as to
if the freebore increases or decreases fps in the r9 design. Seecamp uses the ring
to control pressure but it just reduces pressure , freebore is a interesting choice for pressure control
imo.
In my studies I have found most
persons who freebore pistol calibers increase velocity slightly.

I am interested also in whether the ammo oal is compatible with the R9 for reliability purposes. Nothing can be done about the gun's freebore, but it appears that shorter ammo oal [less than 1.10"] may present problems. The Federal HST 124 gr. oal is comparable to GD and Blazer.
