Jack:

That is an interesting post.

No. 9, the Bryco .380, is correctly described by the author: "Even worse than a brass knuckle on a no-armed retarded man, these ill-fitted pieces of crap were stretching the truth when they were marketed as 'firearms'. Especially insipid as a 'weapon' in a small caliber."

The photo of that Bryco brought back a memory. Before my retirement, I represented a small private college with one of my responsibilities being to review and approve the legality of all expulsions of students and other potentially controversial personnel actions. One of the students, a "wannabe gangbanger" from California, had been caught by campus police with a Bryco .380 on his person. I approved his expulsion, of course, and turned him over to the local authorities. However, the purpose of this recitation is to note that the slide on that piece of excrement he was carrying was "welded" in place by rust. That was probably a good thing, since the "genius" in question had loaded the magazine with some corroded and mismatched rounds of .32 ACP ammunition.

I always wondered how that "genius" had managed to score high enough on the ACT to be admitted to the college.

"No child left behind" might help explain the rampant stupidity and ignorance of our youth....anything above the lower 1/4 of the bell curve is passing and average is A+ with 19 valedictorians in each high school class.  What do you expect...hell, we are now even dumbing down (further) our criminal class.  We need to be reaching our kids ethics, the three "R's", problem solving, and the 10 Commandments of gun safety.

We also need to limit access to certain violent computer video games somehow...read the book ON KILLING by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman...he notes how we taught 85% of the Viet Nam era rifle squad soldier to fire his weapon for effect (as opposed to 15-20% historically in all other wars) by using Skinnerian operative conditioning almost exactly like many of our computer video games...we are creating killers without teaching them ethics, and the distortion of personal relationships created by living in the cloud instead of the neighborhood allows the basis of sociopathy to occur, ie; the depersonalization of human relationships.
Rant over, sorry!
John

Well stated; the Marine Corps and other military services are masters of Skinnerean conditioning and the techniques used in cognitive dissonance. Unlike the above scenario they have channeled their training into a positive force.
