Title: Re: LTB-  RR R9S (Bought Stealth)
Post by: Chief-USN on September 21, 2009, 04:37:09 PM
In my search I am coming across many Kahr PM9 owners that just cannot understand why one would buy a Rohrbaugh.
The fact that it is hand assembled and not "Square" is lost on them :)
All I hear is "cost too much" and "cannot do +P" .  In the old days when I was issued my first Sig, there was no +P talk and we seemed to survive without it just fine.
Oh well, there is an "entertainment value" <grin>

I saw all that, what I did not see was how much they charged for the work. That was the only question I had. I know it is a good product.

It just required a little more reading as the price was in the first link. Cost was $330.

hmmmm  $1100 for the piece
                 330 for the coating

Still leaves a few hundred dollars for any other modifications (Like checkering , sights, etc) and I would still come in under the cost of a new Robar R9s

Definately something to think about.  Around here we actually have dealers that have Rohrbaughs in stock.

The $330 included the front and rear sight dots, coating and return shipping.

So, Sounds like the thing to do (to satisfy the cheap Bas@urd in me) would be to a. Find a good deal on an R9s, b. have the checkering done, c. send off to Robar to have sight dots and NP3 coating done, amd then d. put a set of Houge Extreme grips on it. At that point I would have done everything reasonable to enhance the little guy's performance and still come in under the cost of a new robar model.  Maybe <grin>

We have a large gun show this weekend here , guess I will go do some digging. Hopefully I will find And R9S of somesort. Last time i went searching at a gunshow i came back with parts to build another "Black Gun". I Love AR-15's
they are so easy to configure and change.

Told my wife last night I was searching for another gun:), she just rolled her eyes and mumbled something about "keeps him off the streets" when it comes to guns my whole family is pack rats. We have guns that have been in the family for hundreds of years. ie, Kentucky long rifles, squirrel guns, and muzzle loading shotguns.
 Gun show is tomorrow !

Well, looked at every Rohrbaugh deal I could find out there and found deals like :

$1250 for a April 2008 Elite
and
   $800 for a 2004 R9S

I was also thinking of picking up a regula R9S and sending it off to robar.

Then I ran into a hungry dealer that was just a really nice guy and pibked up a new stealth for a litle over 1K.  Saved a few hundred bucks and got a new gun. (Maria's advice)

Now I am in a quandry, don't want to cover that nice finish on the stealth with robar  :(

 Any suggestions guys?

What is the quandry? I would just keep it as is. You can always send it off later if you like.

Just carry it awhile; that might yield a few scratches.

Congratulations on getting the Stealth.  Just enjoy the work of art you now possess.

This one is for carry everyday. That was why I did not get the Elite. I was worried it would become a "Safe Queen" due to it's rarity. Maria at Rohrbaugh reminded me of that. I like the indestructability of the Robar Finish. How are the stealths holding up with the "stock" finish? Any of you guys carry one regularly?
