Title: Cylinder & Slide SFS System - " Cocked and Locked, Hammer Down"
Post by: Richard S on October 03, 2012, 11:13:44 AM
The recent discussion of the dangers of carrying single-action pistols "cocked and locked" in the pocket prompts me to post once again a link to what I consider to be one of the most significant innovations for the 1911-type and Browning Hi-Power handguns since John Moses Browning went to his eternal reward. It is the "Safety Fast Shooting System" invented by Bill Laughridge, President of Cylinder & Slide, Inc. I've had one of his SFS Systems installed on my "go-to" Clark Customized Colt 1991A1 for the past few years and am still in awe of its operation. The system is available for 1911-type pistols and Browning Hi-Powers. The latter in particular, I believe, benefit from the system due to their lack of a beaver-tail grip safety.
Take a look at Mr. Laughridge demonstrating the SFS System at this link. (It's small wonder that he was named Pistolsmith of the Year by the Guild after the SFS System was unveiled.)

Richard, I have had many of Bill's SFS Systems installed in several Hi-POWERS for sale. The customers that have them love em. Tom

After reminding myself that "a man has to know his limitations," I had my local FFL who is also a 1911 gunsmith install the SFS System in my prized Colt. When he delivered the weapon back to me with the System installed he uttered the following elegant remark in front of several of the "usuals" hanging around his shop: "That thing's slicker'n snot!" ;D
One of the "usuals" offered to purchase the Colt on the spot -- until I told him how much I had already invested in it.

I hadn't heard of the SFS system before. Thank you for posting it. I think I absolutely 'need' it now!! Too many things, not enough money - the cycle continues!

Probably should gone this route vs picking up a Para LDA, but that's water under the bridge.

I read about those when they first came out and always thought that thery were just cooler than cool. I always wanted one, but knew I would be sent over the edge once I saw it. Now that I have seen it, I really do "need" it now.
I also remember a special run of Hi-power or clones that came from the factory years ago with the SFS System installed and remembered it was a really good value.
Thanks Richard

And here is my favorite "1911" with the C&S SFS System, "Cocked & Locked, Hammer Down":
