Title: R9 #127 ALSO AT EIGHT YEARS
Post by: kjtrains on May 12, 2012, 01:52:22 PM
The #127 was delivered to the original owner May 5, 2004 who was a Gun Store Owner in Fla., and avid gun collecter.  I was lucky enough in September of '10 to purchase the #127 from him which he had kept in impeccable condition.  Today it rides in a Meco Sharkskin pocket holster, loaded with Winchester 115 gr. Silvertips.  I am impressed with this amazing pistol each and every time it comes out of the pocket.     :)

Z it would have an "S" if it had sights, as it is early enough but Ken's 127 is one of the rare early models without sights :D Also I don't think it is a silver frame, he can correct me if I am wrong, but most of the Pre R Guns had a light gray anodized frame except the few silver framed ones.

For those interested I was able to dig up a picture that shows 4 Farmingdales of various frame colors. I think at this point they were all owned by former member Corey (CWC). The one in the front is a Pre-R Silver Frame, the two in the middle are R serial numbers and have dark gray anodized frames, and the last one is a Pre-R that has the light gray anodized frame.

Corey had an amazing collection....

Adam and Ryan.  The #127 does have the light gray frame, however, just happy as punch to have it, and no "s" on the slide as it does not have sights.  I knew that when I bought it and still jumped at the chance.  It was all about the early no. and the impeccable condition that sold me.  Now, I'm not even looking for another early one.  I'm content.    :)

Ken,

I actually think that your early R9 without sights is especially collectible as I don't think that many were ordered without sights. You probably know of more than I do but the only other one I know of is the sightless half of the 104/105 pair. Are any still produced without sights?

Ryan.  I'm not sure, but I think it can be ordered that way (without sights).

Yes you can.

I talked to the factory about a year ago and they said no problem.  They just take a belt sander to the sights on the slide and wack 'em off before the finishing process.

Just wanted to point out: certainly not in competition with RS on his fabulous #132, merely wanted to show another R9, the #127,  that is eight years old and still looks like the day it came from the factory.  These pistols really do stand the test of time given good treatment and care.  Although I haven't owned it but a short while, I sure am proud to have a bit of Rohrbaugh history.

Thanks to each who offered congrats.

Interestingly, Rohrbaugh originally believed the "no sights" model would be the default choice for most people--but the market (for the most part) wanted sights.  I don't find the sights to be a problem, and much prefer to have them.  This gun is certainly capable of enough accuracy to make the sights useful.

I agree with the sights.  Would prefer also to have them, but since this one was w/o, wasn't about to turn it down.  Have two other R 9's with sights, one of which is a factory Robar.  These are amazing pistols.

Very nice! Since I already have the R9s, I would like my next Rohrbaugh purchase to be a no-s version of the pup.

Thanks, Robert.  I really don't miss the sights when carrying or shooting the 127; good to have both models, indeed.

I agree with KJ.

Just plinking at the range, I can hit shotgun wads 15-20 feet away 50% of the time.  The misses are not far off.  Thus a much bigger target such as a predator should be no problem with this gun with no sights.

Very nice Rohrbaugh, Reinz.  Like those grips, as well.    :)
