Deputies capture 2 persons of interest in double homicide
by JEFF FARRELL,, The Mountain Press 12 hrs ago
PITTMAN CENTER — An intense two-day manhunt in the eastern part of the county paid off early Friday evening in the capture of two people labeled “persons of interest” in a murder investigation in Greene and Cocke counties.
Sevier County sheriff’s deputies found 30-year-old Christopher Allen Jones and 32-year-old Tabitha Whitlock on foot in the Pittman Center area around 5 p.m., Sheriff Ron Seals said. They apprehended Whitlock first and then found Jones nearby a short time later.
Deputies had been searching the Pittman Center and Cosby areas since Thursday afternoon.

Keep the 12ga close at hand. ;D

It was a double homicide for which the two "persons of interest" were being sought for questioning. Their presence in the area had been ascertained by some good detective work. Once their general location was known, it was only a matter of time before they were caught. The Sevier and Cocke County deputies know these mountains like the backs of their hands.

Charges are forthcoming against three suspects in a Greene County double murder, according to officials.
Christopher Allen Jones, 30, of Newport; Tabitha Whitlock, 32, of Mosheim; and James Douglas Black, 49, of Hartford, are in custody. Sheriff's officials from both Greene County and Cocke County made the announcement Saturday morning.
The three are suspects in last weekend's murder of Cortney Amber Thompson and Terrence Logan Stewart.
A citizen found their bodies under a bridge off Newport Highway around 7 a.m. Sunday.
Officials later named Jones and Whitlock persons of interest in the case and captured them Friday. Black was brought into custody later that evening as well.
Along with the capture, officials announced that they found the victims' blue 2000 Honda Accord near Exit 417 off Interstate 40 as well.
They previously discovered their green BMW at an apartment complex in Newport.
