Hasn't this one been out for over a year?

Probably so, but new to me!    :)  The actual release date was April 22, 2010; don't keep up with 1911 new guns; got an email from TopGlock.com today about the Remington 1911 and hadn't seen it before.  Good price, though.

I got a chance to shoot one that my friend just bought and really liked it. I love the look of the original GI style grip safety and hammer but I had to adjust my grip a little lower than usual to avoid hammer bite. He forgot to do the same...

I picked one up about 4 months ago. It's a great shooter.  I got it because I stores of .45 and the only 1911's I had to fire them through were 'semi' safe queens.  Wanted an affordable shooter and the R1 has filled the void.  It's a great value 1911.

edit: the 1 thing I was not a fan of were the grips, the checkering was leaving some battle wounds on my hands after awhile, so I put some smooth grips on it and it has been butter since.
