Title: R9 recoil
Post by: kcub on November 12, 2010, 09:05:46 AM
I know recoil is subjective.  I know it will be affected by the size and dimensions of the gun, the caliber, the ammo, whether or not it has an extension, the size of an individuals hands, etc.

Still, the question begs an answer cheaper than $1150 assuming one is not available to try.

In your opinion please fill in the blanks.

The R9 recoils like the _____ loaded with _____.

or

The R9 recoils less than the _____ loaded with _____ but more than the ___ loaded with ____.

kcub.  Here's a thread that talks about the R9 recoil and what is similiar.

Thanks.

I tried to use the search functionality and it does not seem to work or else I am not tickling it the way it wants.

How does the R9 compare to a Kel Tec .380 or a Sp101 .357?

Maybe that Federal low recoil ammo would be a good choice.   Does it feed ok?

I believe John can answer that one!    :)  See the following thread; near the bottom.

The R9 recoils less than the (Ruger Alaskan) loaded with  (300gr Speere HPs) but more than the (Walther P22) loaded with (CCI mini mags). ;D ;D

I think everyone will agree the R9 has a noticeable recoil.
My only issue when I first started shooting it was the trigger guard banging the knuckle of my trigger finger, a minor adjustment in finger position cured that.
I don't find it unpleasant or punishing like the S&W 340PD with factory grips and full power 357 mag ammo, :o

The R9 "pops" pretty good.  It does not hurt like the MDE can.  A 50 shot range trip is all I do.  I could do more but dont.  My wife shoots one fine, she says its about like her LCP or Seecamp 32.  I think her smaller hand helps her with it.

Thanks, I can relate having the MDE.  I use federal reduced recoil .380 and extensions, all you can do.

What city do you live in? If you post your general location, a member might meet you at the range. Just a thought...

The only thing I might add to the above, other than to repeat the observation that the subjective recoil of the R9 for me is stout but entirely manageable, would be to predict that in the unfortunate situation of having to use the pistol in a SHTF personal-defense situation, recoil will be unnoticed -- and you will have a 9mm Parabellum working for you.

kcub.  I'm one of the ones that bought an R9 sight unseen; have never regretted it one bit; now own #127; once you get one, you may want another and probably will.

I had not seen or held one before placing the order with my local shop, no regrets here. :D

Too much of a pocketgunaholic not to.

Should my pup be a lab or a Weimaraner?

This is a Rouhbaugh not a Ke-tec, it would be more like an Afghan Hound aloof and dignified.  ;D   ;D
Labs or a Weimaraners are common like Glocks and Kel-tecs
Rohrbaughs less so like Afghans.

I just meant Stealth (labrador) or standard (Weimaraner).

I'm thinking Stealth

It doesn't matter.

It was love at first sight for me.  I could not get the CC out quick enough.
I could care less about recoil at the time.  All I knew that is that I finally what I had been searching for most of my life - the smallest, lightest, most potent pocket rocket on the planet.  Carried all the time and shot very little.  Who cares what the recoil is.

That was my mind set.

And I'm glad it was, it sure paid off.

Good Luck

And by the way - if you consider yourself a shooter, then recoil is no big deal.
If not, then learning is no big deal either.

Reinz.  I'm with you.  Don't worry about recoil with the R9.  Just get it.   GHEE WHIZ!    :)
