Title: New to the forum, looking for a stealth
Post by: epkptp on February 01, 2011, 05:46:05 AM
Just found this forum through searches.  Looks like a great forum, but not much for sale in the classifieds.  This is probably a good thing!

Since I can't seem to find a used R9S for sale, where is the cheapest place to find a new one?  Tried gunbroker/gunsamerica and it looks like they are listed for around $1200.  Can I get one cheaper elsewhere?

Also, is there anything different about the Elite/Special Forces models other than the finish (and that they are discontinued)?  Seems kind of silly to spend 3 to 4 times as much if there isn't.

Thanks for any assistance with this.  I'm hoping to make a purchase today (Tues) with the help of this forum!

Welcome to the campfire! Give Tom Watson ("theirishguard") a PM or e-mail. He is a long-time supporter of the Forum and can work with your local FFL to get you the R9 of your choice as quickly as anyone.

epkptp.  Welcome to the Forum.  Wishing you the best in the search for the Stealth.  Corey has a good suggestion on the one on Gunbroker and the Buy Now Price of $1100.  You could grab that one today and with free shipping.  Good luck and again, welcome.

Thanks for all the replies and the link!  I emailed the guy on gunbroker and he doesnt take CC or any form of online payment.  I was hoping for instant payment to get the gun faster.  Ill try finding contact info for the member you guys mentioned.

Can anyone tell me if there are any other differences with the Elite and Special Forces models?  They are not out of my budget but I also dont want to spend extra more on upgrades not worth the money.

Thanks again!

Here's the description:

The R9 Stealth Elite has a Daimond Black DLC coated slide with the sides sanded by hand to reveal the stainless silver color.  The trigger and magazine release are glass beaded to produce a satin look.  The extractor is also hand sanded like the sides of the slide, to further enhance the look of the gun.

Just a little on the Rohrbaugh Special Forces from the Forum here.

Thanks!

I saw one on gunbroker for about $2800.  So an extra $1600 to just have it sanded?!  I realize there is a collector value to it, but I wish there were at least some other functional improvements (better trigger etc).

I can only give the Rohrbaugh description.  Sorry.   Maybe someone else here knows more and will chime in.  It originally sold for $1350, thereabouts.

Welcome to the group.
For the straight up best value for the money for a carry piece the stock two tone is it. The stealth is only a little more money and if you like the all black that would be the way to go.
Keep in mind the black slide will show more wear than the stainless.
The other high dollar models are nice but in my opinion do not offer significant extras proportional to the dollar difference.

Just found out my Stealth will be shipped out Fedex Priority Air!  When he told me it had to be shipped ground I was a surprised because I thought everything had to be shipped air.  I guess he was confused and let me know this morning.  Hopefully Ill get it by Saturday!

An FFL can ship UPS Ground or USPS Priority Mail. An individual must ship UPS or FedEx overnight (there rule not a law)

John
Title: Re: New to the forum, looking for a stealth
Post by: tracker on February 03, 2011, 10:08:48 PM

My understanding is that no handgun may be sent through the USPS. Handguns must be shipped FFL to FFL via UPS or FEDEX overnight air unless it is being shipped by an individual to a Mfg. or repair facility and then it must still be shipped one day air by UPS or FEDEX. There are many who choose their own methods such as the person who ships his guns by FEDEX ground, doesn't identify it as weapon, and has never had a problem---yet.

Ive shipped and received over 20 guns through my FFL via USPS Priority Mail.  I believe FFL dealers can ship any they want.  Even received one via First Class Mail before...
Title: Re: New to the forum, looking for a stealth

Guns and ammo can be sent USPS.
When I need to ship a gun now I go to my online USPS account and print out a Priority shipping label and take the label and flat rate priority box with the gun to my FFL and he ships it. Costs me $10.50 and the transfer fee.
They must fill out a form at the PO when shipping a gun.
I have received ammo from Midway several times by USPS but we can not ship ammo by USPS.

John

I agree with John.  When I ship a handgun I take it to my FFL and he does the paperwork and I take it to the PO.  I save about $50.00 over UPS with insurance.

Thanks!

I dont think I do. lol. Im just happy to get the R9S overnighted for $1000.  I had already sent him $1000 for free ground shipping so he just ate the difference for air.  Not only that he included some sort of door security device from his company for free too!  Ill give him some free advertising with this link.  Please order from jordan if you are interested.

How much do you think all the extras are worth in my package?  I tried to price the grips (which I think are awesome) by googling but didnt see any other ones for sale.

It shipped out today and should be here Monday!

300!? :o :o :o :o

And I thought Nill grips were expensiven. I just checked the price on the door security thing and it's $140.  And I got extra springs and scews on top of that.  Wow, my day just got awesome.  :D

epkptp.  The grips you have, as said by John, were sold by Curt, a member here on the Forum and sold for around $77 bucks.  The original CF grips from Rohrbough are selling for around $300, especially the blues and also some black.

Well, I picked up my R9S from my FFL today during my lunch!  It's a lot smaller than I was expecting.  I've never seen one in person so I was pretty amazed by how small it is.  I'm guessing there will be a lot of recoil?  I've read a lot of R9S/PM9 comparisons, but the R9S feels much smaller.

It's sitting right next to me in my backpack at work. Can't even look at it.  :(  Only 3 hours to go! lol

I didn't make it to the range...I guess my wife wasn't cool with me leaving her all the dirty dishes.  lol

I left the R9S in my front pocket (unloaded) for the last hour and forgot it was there!  Thought it was my cell phone.  I can't wait for my Graham holster to get here on Thursday.  Wolverine_450 was cool enough to ship it out before receiving my payment.

By the way...Let me know when to shut up about this gun. lol
Title: Re: New to the forum, looking for a stealth
Post by: yankee2500 on February 09, 2011, 12:59:26 AM
I wouldn't really trade my G-19, not even for an R9.  I bought it new in the early 80s shortly after they came out. I have put 25 -30 thousand rounds through it. I replaced the barrel about a year ago with a Wolf extended ported barrel & just had a new extractor put on.
It has never had a failure of any kind and in true Glock fashion will eat anything you feed it. ;D

Wow, that's a lot of rounds through one gun.  And for one person for that matter.

Swapped out the screws just now with the black ones that come with it.  They look much better, don't know why the guy didn't use them.  I just tried posting a pic but I just must be retarded.  I can post pics on three other forums but not this one.  Tried capitalizing the "I" in img as suggested, but that doesn't work either.
Title: Re: New to the forum, looking for a stealth
Post by: yankee2500 on February 09, 2011, 01:26:20 AM
It's not really a lot of rounds when you consider it is approx. 29 years old, thats only about 1K per year average. I remember getting 9mm ammo for $89 per 1000.

I'm not sure what your problem is with posting, are you using Photobucket ?

John

Edit: I think I got it.
